LG is set to release its swiftest OLED gaming monitor yet. The new UltraGear GX7 boasts a 1440p resolution with a WOLED panel designed by LG Display, achieving an incredible 480Hz refresh rate that positions it among the elite gaming monitors available.

Similar specifications have appeared before, notably with the Sony InZone M10S and the Asus ROG Swift PG27AQDP, both featuring the same 1440p panel and 480Hz refresh rate. However, the UltraGear GX7 distinguishes itself with a price point of $1,000, which is $100 less than Sony’s offering.

Additionally, LG has integrated a DisplayPort 2.1 connection to enhance compatibility with next-gen graphics cards expected to debut in early 2025. This aligns with the anticipated release of Nvidia’s RTX 50-series and AMD’s RDNA 4 GPUs, making the DisplayPort 2.1 feature a noteworthy inclusion.

As of now, only Sony has included DisplayPort 2.1 in its 1440p, 480Hz OLED model, the PG27AQDP, which also retails at $1,000. Given the favorable pricing compared to Sony and the superior DisplayPort standard over Asus, LG may present the top version of this panel to date. While Acer is also working on a version of this panel, it has yet to officially launch one.

Although LG previously introduced a 480Hz OLED with its unique UltraGear Dual Mode OLED, this marks its first high-refresh-rate 1440p model. Observations of other monitors featuring this panel indicate that OLED technology effectively utilizes the high refresh rate, surpassing competitors like the Alienware 500Hz gaming monitor in motion clarity.

Currently, LG has made the available for pre-order until December 22. Additionally, LG is offering a holiday promotion where eligible UltraGear monitor purchases, including the new GX7, will come with a free $200 prepaid MasterCard. This promotion effectively reduces the cost to below $800 for the next month, offering a more attractive deal compared to both Asus and Sony.
