MultiVersus, the free-to-play fighting game that featured an impressive variety of characters from numerous franchises, is officially closing its doors—this time for good. Today marks the final opportunity to add it to your collection before it is removed from digital storefronts on May 30. However, there is a positive aspect to this announcement: the game will remain playable in offline mode and can be reinstalled after the delisting date. To ensure you can access it later, simply log into the game on your preferred platform between February 4 and May 30.
Describing the game’s challenges would be an understatement. MultiVersus debuted in beta back in July 2022 and ran until June 2023, but it was subsequently taken offline for almost a year for a complete overhaul. It was reintroduced in May 2024 utilizing Unreal Engine 5, revealing noticeable enhancements; unfortunately, these improvements weren’t sufficient to sustain its success.
The decision to shut down the game isn’t entirely unexpected. In November 2024, Warner Bros. acknowledged that MultiVersus had significantly fallen short of expectations but indicated that they would continue development efforts.

As of today, players can no longer acquire premium currency or engage in any real-money transactions within the game. However, any Gleamium—MultiVersus’s in-game currency—already acquired can still be utilized until the conclusion of Season 5 on May 30. The development team expressed gratitude to the community, highlighting their appreciation for the support received throughout the game’s life cycle.
“Above all, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to every player and supporter of MultiVersus. The teams at Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games have dedicated countless hours and effort to bring this game to life. We will always be grateful for the amazing support from the MultiVersus community throughout this journey,” the statement read.
While the game will no longer be accessible online, fans can still download and enjoy MultiVersus in local multiplayer mode, making it an excellent choice for party gaming. Be sure to claim your copy before it completely vanishes from digital platforms.
