In the trailer for The Narrow Road to the Deep North, Jacob Elordi portrays a soldier enduring captivity as a prisoner of war in this forthcoming Australian drama series set to be available on Prime Video.
Elordi steps into the role of Dorrigo Evans, an Australian physician who finds himself a POW during the construction of the Burma Railway in World War II. As the narrative unfolds across different time periods, we see Dorrigo’s life significantly change due to a fervent love affair with his uncle’s wife, Amy Mulvaney (played by Odessa Young). In the present day, an older Dorrigo (Ciarán Hinds) reflects on his experiences as a war hero, grappling with profound sadness and loss.
In the trailer, Dorrigo, portrayed by Hinds, poignantly states, “We all left a part of ourselves in that jungle. Memory is the only true justice.”
The cast of The Narrow Road to the Deep North also features Olivia DeJonge, Heather Mitchell, Thomas Weatherall, Show Kasamatsu, and Simon Baker.
This series is inspired by Richard Flanagan’s 2013 novel of the same name. The show has been adapted for television by Shaun Grant, with direction from Justin Kurzel. The duo previously worked together on projects such as 2011’s Snowtown, 2020’s True History of the Kelly Gang, and 2021’s Nitram.

Director Justin Kurzel also helmed the 2024 thriller The Order, which focuses on an FBI agent’s efforts to thwart a white supremacist group attempting to seize governmental power. In a review, Digital Trends’ Alex Welch remarked that The Order is “a gripping, haunting, and unfortunately necessary true-crime thriller.”
The Narrow Road to the Deep North will consist of five episodes, with its premiere set for April 18 on Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. The BBC will broadcast the series in the U.K., while Sony is currently negotiating distribution for the U.S. market.
