HMD May Release New Windows Phone Design Tribute

HMD Global, widely recognized as HMD, appears to be intensifying its pursuit of reviving iconic Windows Phone aesthetics with the launch of the HMD Skyline. Recently, a smartphone linked to the codename Sage was leaked on X (previously known as Twitter), showcasing a design that many will find reminiscent.

The Sage adopts the Skyline’s characteristic shape, reminiscent of the Lumia 920, featuring squared shoulders, a flat rear panel, and rounded corners for a more ergonomic grip. The camera setup is prominently positioned in the top left corner, resembling an island on the back cover. Mirroring the vibrant options of bygone Lumia devices, the Sage is expected to be available in several eye-catching colors, including dark green, blue, and red, complete with an HMD logo centered on the rear panel.

Additionally, another post from the leaking account has provided details about the device’s specifications. Although the front design is not visible in the leaked image, it is rumored to feature a 6.55-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The rear camera module is said to contain two 50-megapixel sensors. Other anticipated features include a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC capabilities, and an IP52 rating for dust and water resistance.

That said, recent leaks indicate that the Sage may not be positioned as HMD’s flagship device. Constructed from plastic, it is expected to utilize the Unisoc T760 processor. Launched earlier this summer, this chip has already appeared in budget-friendly models, such as the Motorola Moto G35, which retails for approximately £150 ($195). However, if the pricing is attractive, consumers might overlook the device’s lower-end specifications, and many will likely appreciate HMD’s commitment to reviving the beloved design language of Windows Phones.

As of now, it remains uncertain whether the Sage will materialize into an actual product from HMD. The account responsible for the leak has been active since 2023, posting various credible details related to HMD, lending some weight to the authenticity of the information. Nevertheless, nothing is official at this point. HMD recently rolled out the Fusion, a concept focused on modularity, and introduced the Skyline back in July. The company is also dedicated to encouraging children to minimize their smartphone usage, promoting nostalgia-inducing feature phones like the Nokia 3210 and the upcoming Barbie Phone.
