Guild Wars May Be Getting A Spinoff Here’s What We Know

Guild Wars 2 has established itself as a prominent free-to-play MMO, thriving for over ten years since its launch. This game has successfully maintained its popularity, even competing with giants like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV. Exciting news has emerged that a spinoff could be on the horizon, offering something new for fans to enjoy before the potential release of Guild Wars 3.

According to a report from PCGamesN, details regarding this new title were initially discovered on SteamDB, a service that tracks various statistics related to Steam. The application has been named Lion’s Arch: GuildWars Arena (Private Playtest). However, it’s worth noting that the application is currently not accessible to the public, meaning you’ll need to wait before diving in.

PCGamesN further investigated Steam’s end-user license agreements and found a reference that specifically mentions NCSoft Co., hinting at the company’s involvement with the upcoming game.

While details are scarce, we can speculate based on what we know. Lion’s Arch is a notable city in the kingdom of Kryta, and there have been longstanding rumors about a collectible card game related to Guild Wars 2. This new title could potentially be that highly anticipated card game—but it might also offer a different gameplay style. Fans have even tossed around the idea of it being a MOBA, though this seems less likely.

Currently, NCSoft appears to be enjoying a successful period with both the ongoing popularity of Guild Wars 2 and the recent launch of Throne and Liberty. Adding another game to a beloved franchise could amplify excitement, especially if NCSoft has plans to unveil Guild Wars 3 in the near future.
