Nintendo has introduced an exciting new feature for the Switch that allows users to share virtual games with friends for up to two weeks. Imagine it like lending a physical game card, but without the hassle of tracking down the cards.
However, there are some conditions: to lend a game, you must be connected to the same local wireless network as the recipient. This means your buddy across the country won’t be able to borrow your game; they need to be on your Wi-Fi. After you lend the game, it can be played offline, requiring an internet connection only for initial loading or to eject the game.

The announcement included two distinct options for sharing: lending to another system or sharing with family members. Everyone included in your Nintendo Switch Family can borrow games, but only one game can be lent to each person at once. The borrowed games will remain on their console for a period of two weeks, after which they will automatically be returned to your system. Importantly, any saved data will not be lost, allowing you to lend the game again if your friend wants to continue after the two-week period.

This functionality only pertains to games purchased digitally. If you have a physical cartridge, you’ll still need to lend it in the traditional manner: directly handing it over. It certainly feels a bit old-fashioned!
All your virtual game cards can readily be accessed on the Nintendo Switch home screen under the Virtual Game Cards icon, simplifying management.
This innovative solution addresses the challenges of sharing digital games across systems. It’s particularly advantageous for those with multiple Nintendo Switch consoles or for anyone wanting to test out a game before committing to a purchase.
This feature is not available just yet, but Nintendo intends to roll it out in a system update slated for late April.
