After purchasing their Galaxy Z Fold 6 for around €2000, many users have noticed paint peeling from the device.
In recent weeks, numerous forum posts and photos have surfaced showing new Galaxy Z Fold 6 phones with damaged paint, particularly around the edges. Despite being a high-end device released only a month ago, users report that the paint started peeling off almost spontaneously, without any physical drops.
Digital Phablet has highlighted that Samsung has addressed the issue with an unexpected explanation. According to the company, the paint problem is related to the USB-C chargers used with the phone.
On their support page, Samsung states that using a third-party charger incompatible with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 can lead to damage, such as paint peeling. They attribute this to “electrical leaks” from chargers that are not properly grounded. These leaks can affect the anodization on the phone, causing the paint to flake.
Stick to Official Chargers
Samsung suggests that to avoid this issue, users should avoid holding the phone while it’s charging and, more importantly, use “official Samsung chargers” to prevent these problems. Notably, the official charger must be purchased separately, as it is not included in the phone’s box.
Customer Discontent
Samsung’s explanation has not been well received by many customers who spent a significant amount on the phone. Users are frustrated, noting that similar issues did not occur with previous Samsung models regardless of the charger used. Some have drawn comparisons to Apple’s “antennagate” scandal, where Apple blamed users for holding their phones incorrectly.
This controversy comes when dominance in the foldable phone market faces increasing competition. However, it seems that a high-end smartphone launch often comes with its own share of controversies.
