In 2024, OnePlus dedicated its efforts to enhancing its user interface while elevating its flagship candy bar smartphone. As a result, the rollout of its second foldable device was postponed, and there were no advancements for the OnePlus Open, which debuted in 2023. However, with new information emerging about the OnePlus Open 2, it seems that its launch might be approaching soon.
Today, we’re catching our initial glimpse of what is anticipated to be the OnePlus Open 2, thanks to SmartPrix, which has gathered potential specifications from reputable sources such as leakers Chunvn and Yogesh Brar.
The OnePlus Open 2 is said to feature a fresh design with rounded edges, larger displays, and improved ergonomics. Reports suggest that the thickness when folded may be reduced to under 10mm, making it one of the slimmest book-style foldable phones on the market. Additionally, OnePlus is likely to enhance water resistance by incorporating an IPX8 rating, which indicates it can withstand submersion in water for a limited time.

In terms of display improvements, the inner screen is expected to increase to 8 inches from the previous 7.8 inches, while the outer display is likely to grow to 6.4 inches, up from 6.3 inches according to reports.
The OnePlus Open 2 is anticipated to maintain its triple-camera setup on the back but with an altered orientation for the lenses and enhanced sensors. Previous leaks have indicated that the device could utilize three 50MP cameras, which is expected to mirror the configuration found in the OnePlus 13 (anticipated from its Chinese introduction). The front cameras are likely to remain at 20MP for the inner display and 32MP for the outer screen.
Power-wise, the Open 2 will see significant upgrades, featuring the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. It is expected to come with 16GB of RAM and storage options reaching up to 1TB—similar to the specifications of the OnePlus Open’s Apex Edition.
The device’s battery is also projected to receive significant enhancements, boasting a capacity of 5,900mAh compared to the previous 4,800mAh. Moreover, wired charging speeds are likely to increase from 67W to 80W, and fast wireless charging at 50W is also anticipated.
Regarding the release timeframe, the OnePlus Open 2 is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2025, dispelling earlier speculations about a mid-2025 introduction. This timeline aligns with an official announcement from Oppo, OnePlus’ parent company, concerning the release of the Find N5 foldable prior to the Find X8 Ultra. It’s likely that the OnePlus Open 2 will essentially be a rebranded version of the Find N5, with both devices hitting the market around the same time.
The images circulating in the leak are from a late-stage prototype, so final details about the available colors and precise dimensions may still require confirmation.
