Twitter (X) Hides Likes For All Users

Elon Musk’s X begins hiding all likes for users

Private Likes feature will be introduced on the X platform to increase user privacy.

Elon Musk announced on Wednesday that a new feature is coming that will automatically hide all likes for X users.

X is introducing “private likes,” and you’ll probably start seeing them on users’ timelines starting Wednesday.

So, users’ likes on the platform will be hidden by default, letting them like content without stressing about who might see it.

Musk said it’s “important to let people like posts without getting attacked for it.”

Last month, Haofei Wang, X’s director of engineering, mentioned that the upcoming change is designed to help protect users’ public image.

“Yeah, we’re making likes private. Public likes are encouraging the wrong kind of behavior,” he posted on X.

For example, lots of people hold back from liking content that might be a bit “edgy” because they’re worried about getting trolled or hurting their public image.

“Pretty soon, you can like posts without worrying about who might see it. Just a heads-up: the more posts you like, the better your ‘For You’ feed will get,” Wang mentioned.

So, on the social media platform, only you and the author can see the like.

The author will get a notification, but no one else will. Only you can see your bookmark. We could even let users customize it,” said Wang. “Soon, you’ll be able to like posts without worrying about who sees it. Plus, remember, the more posts you like, the better your ‘For You’ algorithm will get,” Wang added.
