The Day of the Devs event made a comeback today, presenting its latest digital showcase right before The Game Awards 2024. This installment is a must-see for indie game enthusiasts, featuring thrilling announcements about upcoming sequels to popular indie titles such as Ultimate Chicken Horse and Demon Turf.
Continuing a beloved tradition of Geoff Keighley’s annual showcases, Day of the Devs is dedicated to showcasing independent games, often revealing exciting new projects before major events like the Summer Game Fest. This year’s version released just a day before The Game Awards, delighting viewers with unexpected sequel announcements.
Ultimate Chicken Horse fans will be glad to hear about its successor, Ultimate Sheep Raccoon, which retains the fun cooperative and competitive stage-building gameplay style of its predecessor. The unique twist is the introduction of animals riding bikes through player-created obstacle courses, though there’s no release date confirmed yet.
Meanwhile, Neon Abyss 2 aims to expand on its predecessor’s addictive run-and-gun roguelike gameplay, with plans to launch on PC sometime in 2025.
The show also unveiled a new title, Demon Tides, which expands on Fabraz’s Demon Turf, transitioning to a fully open-world experience set for release next year. This new game promises to retain the intricate platforming mechanics of its predecessor while introducing fresh features. Gamers will have the option to equip talismans for new abilities, including a paraglider, and enjoy customization options with various outfits. Demon Tides will even include multiplayer elements, allowing players to race ghostly apparitions of foes or leave graffiti for others to discover.
Additionally, excitement filled the air as the early access release date for Hyper Light Breaker, the follow-up to Hyper Light Drifter, was announced for January 14.
While sequels dominated the showcase, a slew of new titles also grabbed attention. Standouts included Faraway, a whimsical game focused on constellation creation; PBJ — The Musical, a quirky adventure recounting the creation of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with a Shakespearian twist; and Feltopia, a shoot ‘em up featuring a charming stop-motion felt art style.
