Amazon’s AI voice assistant, Alexa, is facing criticism for giving varying responses when asked about voting for Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
As reported by the Washington Post, a recent software update led Alexa to deliver a favorable remark about Harris, labeling her a “proven, strong candidate.” In contrast, when it comes to Trump, Alexa refrained from endorsing him, stating, “I cannot provide content supporting a specific political party or candidate.”
A representative from Amazon, Kristy Schmidt, explained that this discrepancy was due to an “error” which has now been rectified. Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign, expressed his dissatisfaction, questioning whether the situation would have been resolved if it hadn’t gained traction on social media.
Footage of the contrasting responses has circulated widely on social media, drawing attention to the debate surrounding Alexa’s approach to political inquiries.
