Classic Rare Title Arrives on Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo 64™ – October 2024 Game Update – Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is set to welcome another beloved title from Rare’s Nintendo 64 lineup. The iconic Banjo-Tooie, a sequel to Banjo Kazooie, will be available on the platform starting October 25, as announced by Nintendo last Friday.

The news was shared in a fresh trailer, which you can view above. If you’ve played this classic before, you’ll find that the Switch version stays true to the original, featuring a nearly faithful port along with a new widescreen mode that allows for a more expansive view on larger screens.

Banjo Kazooie, the predecessor to Banjo-Tooie, has been available on Nintendo Switch Online for two years. While the first game in the series has garnered more fame, Banjo-Tooie offers its own set of strengths, featuring more elaborate puzzles, graphical improvements, expansive game worlds, and even multiplayer options.

This release also signifies Rare’s last collaboration with Nintendo before their acquisition by Microsoft in 2002, following a fruitful partnership that produced legendary N64 titles, notably GoldenEye 007. Both GoldenEye 007 and Banjo Kazooie were added to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack in 2023 and 2022, respectively, so it was only fitting that Banjo-Tooie would follow suit.

The Expansion Pack tier also grants access to other classic N64 games, including Mario Kart 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and several Mario Party titles. Plus, a wide array of titles from Super NES, Game Boy, NES, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis are available on the service. If you’ve been hesitating on subscribing, the standard Nintendo Switch Online plan is priced at $20 per year, while the Expansion Pack is available for $50 annually.
