Campfire Audio Unveils Updated Axion Earphones: Affordable High-Resolution Sound
Portland’s Campfire Audio, renowned for its premium in-ear monitors, presents a compelling argument for the resurgence of wired earphones that promise high-resolution audio without breaking the bank. Their latest model, the upgraded Axion earbuds, makes a bold entry into the accessible earphone market, priced at $249. This new iteration boasts USB-C connectivity, an integrated high-resolution digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and an attractive contemporary design.
Although not exactly a budget option, the Axion stands as the most budget-friendly choice in Campfire Audio’s lineup, crafted specifically for those seeking audiophile-quality sound without unnecessary complications.
Unlike the overwhelming trend of wireless Bluetooth earbuds, the wired Axion emphasizes practicality and ease of use. The new model comes equipped with a detachable USB-C cable and features a built-in 32-bit/384kHz DAC, sidestepping the inferior DACs typically found in smartphones. This means users can enjoy high-resolution audio without additional adapters or external devices. The cable also includes an inline microphone and a three-button control module— a welcome alternative to the quirky touch controls prevalent in wireless earbuds for handling calls and media playback.
The Axion is powered by Campfire’s first-ever "full-range silicon dynamic driver," designed to combine the compactness of balanced armature drivers with the rich sound attributes of dynamic drivers. Drawing from their extensive expertise in acoustic engineering, Campfire aims to deliver a balanced and harmonious listening experience.
"We aimed to create a high-performance, easily accessible entry point into high-fidelity, portable audio. The Axion excels in providing truly impressive sound quality, effortless usability, and a lightweight, comfortable design," remarked Campfire founder and lead acoustic engineer, Ken Ball.
In addition to its technological advances, the Axion also received a design update. Its sleek black and clear housing exudes a premium aesthetic, well exceeding its $249 price point.
Campfire Audio states that the Axion earphones will be available later this month through the Campfire website, Amazon, and various major retailers.
