Bowers & Wilkins Unveils the Zeppelin Pro Edition Wireless Speaker
Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) has unveiled an updated version of its iconic Zeppelin wireless speaker, now enhanced with technology typically found in the brand’s premium floor-standing models. The Zeppelin Pro Edition maintains the same price of $799 as its predecessor and will be available for purchase starting October 15 in two striking colors: Solar Gold and Space Gray.
While B&W refers to this release as a “Pro Edition,” the enhancements may appear subtle on the surface.
The speaker retains its core functionalities, offering both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, including Apple AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect. The Bluetooth connection supports various codecs—SBC, AAC, and aptX Adaptive—making it compatible with numerous smartphones. Additionally, the B&W Music app provides direct access to streaming services like Deezer, Last.fm, Qobuz, Tidal, and TuneIn.
Powering the speaker is a robust 240-watt integrated amplifier, with a frequency range that spans from 35Hz to 24kHz. The most significant updates are found in the drivers.
B&W has introduced new 1-inch titanium-dome tweeters in the Pro Edition, a design element borrowed from their 600 Series speakers. These tweeters are strategically positioned at the outer edges of the enclosure and are designed to be fully isolated from vibrations caused by other larger drivers within the cabinet.
The two midrange drivers, each measuring 3.5 inches, have also been updated for enhanced cone damping. According to B&W, this modification minimizes cone breakup, resulting in a clearer midrange sound. Additionally, the digital signal processing (DSP) of the Zeppelin has been recalibrated to optimize these new driver enhancements.
The 6-inch subwoofer remains a central feature within the speaker’s housing. B&W claims that the subwoofer’s design has been meticulously refined to prevent unwanted rocking during playback, allowing for a cleaner, more dynamic bass performance.
Lastly, the Zeppelin Pro Edition debuts with a new LED downlight capable of producing over 15 colors, along with adjustable brightness levels.
