Apple’s 2024 upgrade to the M4 chip has significantly enhanced its computer lineup. Last year, the company unveiled the M4 MacBook Pro and iMac models, and research suggests that Apple’s transition from Intel processors to its own silicon has been a successful strategy, driving increased consumer preference for Apple laptops.
Data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) reveals that MacBook models—both the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air—accounted for 86% of Apple’s PC market share in 2024. The M4 MacBook Pro was particularly favored by 53% of consumers, while 33% opted for the MacBook Air, and only 14% chose the iMac. Although these numbers are slightly altered from the previous year, CIRP noted that Apple has managed to navigate any market fluctuations resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the launch of the M-series chips in 2020, the MacBook Pro has consistently maintained higher shipment numbers among M-series devices, surpassing the 50% mark for the first time in 2023.
The introduction of the M-series chip has garnered positive feedback, with users praising the improved performance and battery efficiency, as highlighted by Apple Insider.
Among the various models, the MacBook Pro has emerged as a favorite due to its high performance, comparable to the iMac, combined with the portability that the laptop format offers. The premium pricing of the Pro line has not deterred consumers, particularly as sales and promotions become more frequent over time, according to Wccftech.
Released in October 2024, the M4 MacBook Pro’s 14-inch model is currently discounted on Amazon, selling for $1,400—a $200 reduction, as noted in recent reports.
The M4 MacBook Air made its debut in early 2025, and while Apple touts it as the most powerful MacBook Air to date, shipment statistics are yet to be released. Consumer reception remains to be seen, but initial reviews indicate positive feedback.
