WhatsApp is introducing a fresh feature that will alert users whenever a contact changes their username.
The messaging platform is considering a feature that will automatically inform users in their chats when any of their contacts update their names on WhatsApp.
If a contact deletes or modifies their username, an automatic message will pop up in the chat to notify everyone involved of the change.
Furthermore, similar to various previous updates on WhatsApp, these notifications about username changes don’t seem to be optional. This means they will apply to all users, and individuals won’t have the option to conceal their username changes from others.
This appears to be a strategic decision on WhatsApp’s part, as they aim to keep all users informed, regardless of their notification preferences.
This feature will also help keep contacts updated and may serve as a warning if someone changes their username to something unusual, potentially indicating that their account has been compromised.
The development of this username change notification feature is currently underway and is expected to be included in a future app update.
