OpenAI Search Engine Is Set To Launch Soon

Two sources familiar with the matter have revealed that OpenAI plans to debut its AI-driven search tool on Monday, escalating the competition with search behemoth Google.

The announcement date, which is subject to change, has not before been publicized. Bloomberg and the Information have claimed that Microsoft-backed OpenAI is developing a search solution that might compete with Alphabet’s Google and Perplexity, a well-funded AI search firm.

OpenAI has declined to respond.

The announcement might come a day before Google’s annual I/O conference, which begins on Tuesday and is anticipated to feature a plethora of AI-related items.

According to Bloomberg, OpenAI’s search tool is an expansion of its popular ChatGPT product, allowing ChatGPT to bring in straight material from the Web while also including citations. OpenAI’s chatbot solution, ChatGPT, leverages cutting-edge AI models to provide human-like answers to text requests.

Industry analysts have long referred to ChatGPT as an option for acquiring online information, despite its struggles to provide reliable and real-time information from the Web.

OpenAI previously integrated it with Microsoft’s Bing for premium members. Meanwhile, Google has included generative AI features in its engine.

Perplexity, a $1 billion startup formed by a former OpenAI researcher, has gained popularity by offering an AI-native search experience that displays citations in results and visuals as well as text in its replies. According to the startup’s January blog post, it boasts 10 million monthly active users.

After launching in late 2022, OpenAI’s ChatGPT product was hailed as the fastest application to attain 100 million active users per month. However, global traffic to ChatGPT’s webpage has been on a roller coaster ride over the last year and is just now rebounding to its May 2023 highest point, according to statistics firm Similarweb, and the AI startup is under pressure to grow its user base.

A previous attempt to include updates and real-world information into ChatGPT, known as ChatGPT plugins, was abandoned in April, citing a help center article on OpenAI’s website.
