This region is hard to overlook since it’s part of the main storyline that leads you to the Fire Giant. However, the church might be easy to miss due to the freezing fog cast by the ice dragon, Borealis.

The First Church of Marika is significant as it holds essential items that you’ll need.
Right near the entrance of the church, you can obtain a key item known as the Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing [3], which unlocks Somber Smithing Stone 5 and 6 at the Roundtable Hold.
