Optic ID integrated mixed reality headset was unveiled in June by Apple named The Vision Pro. This headset contains new advanced technology that removes the need for Touch ID or Face ID while keeping the device secure.

Optic ID is a unique biometric method to protect your device. It makes use of your iris to unlock your Vision Pro headset.

    What is Optic ID?

Optic ID is the latest security innovation in the tech market that makes use of your iris in the eye to unlock your device. This Optic ID feature is a part of the Vision Pro Headset.

The Vision Pro will make use of sensors to throw LED light on your iris and will make a detailed 3D scan of the owner’s eye. As the iris of the eye is unique, this will create double security, thus ensuring the device accessibility is for the owner only.

    How does Optic ID work?

Optic ID will first scan the iris of your eye using LED light to create a 3D image. The device integrated with Optic ID will now compare this 3D scanned image with the stored model in the database to verify further.

The already stored model is available in the Vision Pro’s Secure Enclave and is perfectly secured so it doesn’t leak anywhere similar to the Face ID operation on the current iPhones.

To ensure the feature works perfectly and is secure, Apple has trained its neural network with billions of images using a deep learning algorithm. This will cross-confirm that the Optic ID is as secure as the Touch ID and the Face ID.

The technology is smartly prepared by tech giants so that it can recognize different unique patterns of your iris, thus making it hard to fool the device with other representations.

As per Apple, the Optic ID is capable enough to recognize the difference between identical twins. Everything on the device is encrypted so there is no chance of theft.

Though the primary purpose of Optic ID is to provide a perfect security option for the device however it can be used for different things too. This includes pay transactions on Apple, App Store download verifications, and autofill passwords. These features are almost the same as Touch ID and Face ID. The Optic ID in the Vision Pro is compatible with third-party applications as well.
