While the PlayStation 5 Pro offers impressive features, its hefty price tag leads many PS5 users to consider reselling their current systems to mitigate expenses. However, it’s crucial to transfer all your gaming data to the new console before parting with your old unit. If you’re gearing up to make the transition to the Pro, follow these steps to ensure a smooth data transfer, allowing you to dive back into your favorite games with enhanced visuals.
How to Transfer Your PS5 Data to the PS5 Pro
There are three methods to migrate your data from your standard PS5 to the Pro. This first approach is the simplest, but ensure you keep both consoles until the data transfer is complete.
Step 1: Connect both your PS5 and PS5 Pro to the same local network.
Step 2: On your PS5 Pro, navigate to Settings > System Software.
Step 3: Scroll down and choose Data Transfer.
Step 4: Follow the on-screen instructions to have your PS5 Pro scan the network for your PS5.
Step 5: If both consoles are powered on and connected to the network, the data transfer will commence automatically.
Transferring Data Using PlayStation Plus
If you have a PlayStation Plus Essential subscription, you can utilize its cloud save feature to relocate your data to the PS5 Pro.
Step 1: Power on your PS5 and go to Settings.
Step 2: Click on Save Data and Game/App Settings.
Step 3: Select Saved Data (PS5).
Step 4: Under Console Storage, click on Upload to Cloud Storage.
Step 5: Opt to upload specific files or select Select All.
Step 6: Hit Upload.
Step 7: Connect your PS5 Pro to the internet and navigate back to Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
Step 8: Choose Save Data (PS5), then go to Cloud Storage.
Step 9: Select Download to Console Storage.
Step 10: Choose specific files or Select All to download your data.
Transferring Data Using an SSD or USB Drive
Your third option involves using an external SSD or USB drive. If your data is already saved on an SSD, simply install it into your PS5 Pro.
If you’re opting for a USB drive, here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Insert the USB drive into your original PS5.
Step 2: Go to Settings > System Software > Back Up and Restore.
Step 3: Select Back Up Your PS5 and choose the USB drive.
Step 4: Once the backup is complete, remove the USB drive and insert it into the PS5 Pro. Navigate to Settings > Back Up and Restore > Restore your PS5.
Step 5: Choose the USB drive and wait for the files to transfer.
Note: Using the USB method will reset your PS5 Pro to factory settings, so it’s advisable to perform this first as it will erase any new data on the console.
