Oracle VirtualBox allows you to operate other operating systems within Windows and generally performs well, particularly on systems with a high-performance CPU and ample RAM. However, virtualized Windows environments may still experience severe lag, even on powerful computers.
This slowdown is often caused by the presence of Microsoft’s Hyper-V virtualization feature on the host device, which can interfere with VirtualBox. When VirtualBox detects Hyper-V, it may automatically leverage certain elements of this platform, which Oracle warns as “experimental” and notes can impact performance.
To fix this problem, you need to disable Hyper-V. First, shut down any running virtual machines and close VirtualBox. Then, access the Control Panel and navigate to “Programs and Features” via Icon View, and select “Turn Windows features on or off.”
Uncheck the boxes labeled “Hyper-V,” “Windows Hypervisor Platform,” and “Windows Sandbox.” Confirm by clicking “OK,” and wait until Windows disables these features. Finally, restart your computer to apply the changes.
