The latest development that will soon allow users to modify when specific users can view their Last Seen status was seen on the developer version of WhatsApp’s iOS application. Users will be able to limit specific contacts from viewing their Last Seen status.
The Last Seen status tells the last time a user was online on the application. The same feature also lets contacts view when their message has been viewed by the recipient.
The company’s official statement reads: “To improve the privacy and security of our users, we’re making it harder for people you don’t know and haven’t chatted with from seeing your last seen and online presence on WhatsApp. This will not change anything between you and your friends, family, and businesses who you know or have previously messaged”.
Right now, it is only possible to disable the feature for the entire contact list. With the new update, users will be able to pick out specific contacts and prevent them from seeing when they are last online. The WhatsApp iOS beta version 22.9.0.70 does feature a ‘My Contacts Except…’ option under Last Seen in Privacy settings but if a user decides to hide their last seen from anybody, they will also not be able to view their last seen.
How To Hide Last Seen From Specific Contacts
1. Open WhatsApp
2. Tap “Three Dots” On Top Right
3. Tap “Settings”
4. Tap “Account”
5. Tap “Privacy”
6. Tap “Last Seen”
7. Tap “My contacts except…”
8. Select the contacts you want your last seen to hide or show
WhatsApp is said to be working on implementing other privacy and general modifications as well for both Android and iOS, which may be rolled out soon for all users.
