Zelda's Tale: Whispers of Ancient Wisdom

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom shares elements with other titles in the series, emphasizing the importance of bombs early in your journey. For those familiar with The Legend of Zelda, bombs serve as potent tools to dismantle barriers, inflict damage on foes, and expand your exploration opportunities throughout the expansive game environment.

Bombs come in various types, including traditional items you can place and powerful Echoes featured in TLoZ: Echoes of Wisdom. Players can summon Echoes any time, allowing you to evoke the memories of items or adversaries you’ve encountered. There are two distinct types of bomb Echoes obtainable early on, granting you access to explosives before incorporating them into the ongoing storyline.

How to Acquire Bombs

Obtain the Right Echoes

Bombs are accessible through two types of Echoes: the Bombfish and Zirro mushrooms, found in different areas. While traditional bomb items can be obtained later in the storyline, acquiring bombs early can be beneficial to bypass obstacles immediately. For instance, one of the dungeons in the game requires bombs to progress, preventing you from obtaining its rewards without them.

To prioritize your search for bombs, aim to collect Bombfish first. These bombs are easier to locate compared to Zirro Echoes or traditional bombs. However, you must carry some combat Echoes before you can start looking for any bomb types available in TLoZ: Echoes of Wisdom.

How to Acquire and Use the Bombfish

Defeat a Dangerous Opponent

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Zelda acquiring the Bombfish Echo

You can obtain the Bombfish Echo by defeating the Bombfish enemy at Zora River, an area to the east that you may have already explored. You’ll be able to access this place after completing the first rift and the Suthorn Forest dungeon. Travel south from Zora River until you find a cave located just left of the large rift on your map to find the Bombfish.

Inside the cave, notice a gentle stream and a sign instructing not to disturb the Bombfish swimming within. You should spot the Bombfish moving back and forth, prepared to explode if you inadvertently step into the water. Simply trigger the bomb fish from a distance to take it down and claim it as an Echo.

You can use various Echoes Zelda already possesses to combat the Bombfish, like the Chompfin, which can strike the Bombfish in the water, causing it to detonate.

The Bombfish located south of Zora River Village isn’t the only one available in the broader Jabul Waters area. Once you acquire it, you can throw the Bombfish at an enemy or target a foe using L2 to direct it to swim and explode on the target. The Bombfish won’t harm you, so take advantage of its explosions to break down cracked walls, destroy vulnerable objects, or even challenge bosses in TLoZ: Echoes of Wisdom.

How to Acquire and Use the Zirro Echo

Combat Flying Enemies

Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Zelda using Zirro Echo to drop bombs on enemies

Zirros are small, winged mushroom-like creatures that flit around Hyrule, dropping bombs from time to time. After defeating one for the first time, you can use them as an Echo, much like the Bombfish. However, you won’t find Zirros until you reach Eldin Volcano, an area typically accessed later in the game.

You can explore Eldin Volcano early and start to encounter Zirros mainly to the west of Goron City. Evade the bombs dropped by Zirros and summon an Echo with ranged attacks to take them down from the sky. Any thrown spears, arrows, or similar ranged attacks will eventually defeat at least one Zirro, granting you the Echo you desire.

The easiest way to find Zirros is to head west of Goron City, past the area where you can grab smoothies in TLoZ: Echoes of Wisdom, along the path just beyond the settlement’s entrance.

Using a Zirro Echo can be more challenging than employing a Bombfish, yet the controls operate similarly. You can still aim at enemies using L2, which directs the summoned Zirro Echo to drop a bomb that detonates shortly after. Although these bombs trigger quickly, timing their explosions to hit targets, including destructible parts of the environment, can be tricky.

How to Acquire Normal Bombs

Overcome a Dark Reflection

Normal bombs are often referred to as Bombs of Might and can be acquired after you defeat Dark Link in the Eldin Volcano dungeon. This dark incarnation of the legendary hero Link serves as the dungeon’s final boss, attempting to take you down using only conventional bombs. The arena is filled with cracked sand blocks that can be shattered by detonating a bomb nearby.

Can You Play as Link in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom features Princess Zelda as the main character, but can you also play as Link?

To access Dark Link, you must allow him to expose a path as he breaks blocks in the boss arena. Stay clear of the explosions, and reach Dark Link to attack using your Swordfighter form or various attacking Echoes. As shown in the accompanying video by YouTube creator Release-Fire, this strategy prompts Dark Link to transition to a second phase, during which he throws multiple bombs until defeated.

Players with the Zirro Echo can target Dark Link with their own aerial bombs, giving a strategic advantage in the boss battle.

Defeating Dark Link will grant your Swordfighter form the ability to deploy bombs throughout the game world. Similar to the Zirro and Bombfish Echoes, Bombs of Might can clear cracked sections of the environment to uncover hidden treasures or unlock routes to new areas. Explorers looking for secret Heart Pieces, Fairy Bottles, or accessories in TLoZ: Echoes of Wisdom will benefit from using bombs to reveal as many items as possible.

Normal bombs can be thrown while in Swordfighter form by pressing A, but deploying a bomb consumes Energy. Due to the limited duration of your Swordfighter form, this restricts the number of bombs you can use before running low on Energy. It’s often better to utilize Normal Bombs for combat, as you can upgrade Bombs of Might with Lueberry alongside the Swordfighter’s Bow and Sword.

When exploring, Bombfish are the most effective explosives, as they are simple to aim and not subject to quantity limitations. Players who acquire bombs early in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will discover many ways to reveal the secrets of the world, enhancing their strength for the journey ahead.
