As you explore the world of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, you’ll come across a wide variety of weapons, but one that will always stay with you is the PTM represented as Skif’s Pistol. This reliable firearm is locked as a quest item and will remain in your inventory throughout the game.
You’ll discover many more PTM pistols scattered throughout the Zone. You can enhance these with special attachments and mods to boost their performance. An upgraded PTM can support you throughout the game, serving as a powerful backup weapon that’s unlikely to run out of ammunition.
Upgrading the PTM
To upgrade the PTM or any weapon in your inventory, head to a Tech vendor, typically found at most bases in the Zone. The first vendor you encounter will be Lens in Zalissya, where you can invest a few hundred coupons for three possible upgrades.
Upgrade |
Slot |
Bonus |
---|---|---|
Milled Parts Replaced with Stamped Parts |
Body |
50% Weight Reduction |
Tin Coating on Barrel’s Inner Surface |
Barrel |
20% Increased Bullet Velocity |
Extra Barrel Rifling |
Barrel |
30% Enhanced Armor-Piercing Power |
With these upgrades, the PTM will not only weigh less, but you’ll also have to lead your shots less, which will help you score more headshots against armoured foes.
The second upgrade is particularly valuable in late-game scenarios where more enemies don protective gear.
There are two additional attachments for the PTM that you won’t find at a Tech shop: the Pistol Suppressor and the High-Capacity PTM Magazine.
As expected, the suppressor will make your shots quieter, perfect for stealth approaches. The High-Capacity PTM Magazine increases the round count from 8 to 12. Although finding these items requires some effort, neither is overly difficult to obtain.
Where to Find the Pistol Suppressor
In Stalker 2, you can locate the Pistol Suppressor at several spots suited for the PTM and other firearms. The easiest option is the stash in the Boiler House, which you can access right after completing the tutorial.
To attach the Suppressor, simply drag it onto Skif’s Pistol or any equipped PTM. To remove it, go into the weapon options (which allow you to unload a weapon) and select the suppressor. This will take it off the weapon and return it to your inventory.
You can also find a suppressor in the Slag Heap within the Garbage region, but alternatively, you receive a PTM with a pre-installed suppressor during the side quest “The Road to Salvation.”
How to Get the High-Capacity PTM Magazine
There are only two High-Capacity PTM Magazines available in the game, both located in the Lesser Zone.
The first is found in the deepest part of the Sphere during the “Behind Seven Seals” quest, specifically on a table within Solder’s room.
Make sure to grab it during the mission, as there appears to be no way to return to the Sphere basement once you escape.
The second, more accessible magazine is located in a small building at the western edge of the Northern Checkpoint. You can retrieve this magazine before or after completing the “Behind Seven Seals” quest from the table near some radio gear.
Be cautious of the guards, as they tend to be present throughout most of the game. Being in the Lesser Zone, you shouldn’t expect tough resistance from them compared to later-game enemies.
If you prefer not to search for the Pistol Suppressor, you can buy it from vendors outside the Lesser Zone. The specific ones include:
- Sidorovich at Rookie Village, located in Cordon to the east of the Lesser Zone.
- WO Komisarov at the Cement Factory in the northeast corner of the map.
- Ragman at Rostok, the large city to the west of Garbage.
- Viktoria Dorozhnyuk at STC Malachite, situated on the far west side of the map.
Among the vendors selling Pistol Suppressors, Sidorovich is the most convenient option early in the game since he’s very close to the Lesser Zone, making it easier to access the eastern areas of the map while providing a safe base for your operations.
