Trade Tokens have recently been introduced in Pokémon TCG Pocket, and you’ll want to know how to acquire and utilize them for trading purposes. Trading isn’t as straightforward as it might be in the real world, so there are a few key details to keep in mind. However, you can still open your digital collection and start trading right away.
With new events coming up for Pokémon TCG Pocket, it’s a great time to expand your collection. An exciting new expansion featuring Space-Time Smackdown cards is set to launch soon. Trading will play a significant role as these new cards come out, allowing you to leverage your friends’ duplicates to complete your own sets, and they can do the same with yours. Remember, you’ll need Trade Tokens to facilitate these trades.

Obtaining The Items You Need To Trade
Currently, Trade Tokens can only be earned in one way, although they may become available as rewards for Missions or Events in the future. At the launch of the trading feature in Pokémon TCG Pocket, options to obtain them are limited.
I’ve been hoping for more ways to utilize extra cards for a while, and now the situation has improved a bit. You can trade your surplus cards for Trade Tokens, but some limitations apply, so weigh your choices before offloading everything.
You cannot exchange cards with a Tier 1 or 2 rarity for Trade Tokens.
Different rarities yield varying amounts of Trade Tokens. Here’s the breakdown of the values:
Rarity |
# of Trade Tokens Received |
---|---|
Tier 3 |
25 |
Tier 4 |
125 |
1-Star |
100 |
2-Star |
300 |
3-Star |
300 |
Crown |
1500 |
Once you’ve gathered your Trade Tokens, you can use them to trade for cards of the same rarity.
How To Use Trade Tokens For Trading
Spending Tokens To Trade With Your Friends
To trade in Pokémon TCG Pocket, you’ll need to spend a certain number of Trade Tokens, especially for higher rarity cards. You can trade Tier 1 and 2 cards without using any Tokens, but for more valuable trades, you’ll have to start using Trade Tokens. Additionally, you’ll need sufficient Trading Hourglasses, which function similarly to other items in the game.
Rarity |
# of Tokens Needed To Trade |
---|---|
Tier 3 |
120 |
Tier 4 |
500 |
1-Star |
400 |
This system requires you to part with some of your extra cards in order to be able to trade, which can feel a bit counterproductive. Ideally, there should be a way to exchange lower-value cards for Trade Tokens; otherwise, if I give up my extras, I’ll have nothing left to offer. Keep in mind, you can only trade with someone if you’re friends on the app.
It’s also important to note that you may have to wait before trading cards from the newest sets upon their release. It’s currently unclear whether those cards will be available for trades or not, but this information should be forthcoming. Moreover, cards rated higher than 1-Star cannot be traded yet, but the developers have indicated that this will change in future updates. In the meantime, use those Trade Tokens to acquire the exciting ex cards you’ve been anticipating in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
