The West Gate stands as one of the intriguing enigmas in Blue Prince. Although it’s visible right from the start of the game, discovering how to unlock it takes some time. This characteristic mirrors much of what Blue Prince offers: nearly every room, puzzle, or object points back to something in a different part of the mansion, and it’s rare that you have all the necessary components available at once. Such captivating secrets are what draw so many players into the world of Blue Prince.
The West Gate presents a unique challenge, as it isn’t limited to a specific room. It’s a fixed location on Mount Holly, remaining in the same spot throughout your gameplay. Unlocking it requires visiting several rooms in the correct order and solving various puzzles first. However, you only need to unlock it once. Once you do, you gain a significant perk: the ability to draft an Outer Room, significantly expanding your options for future runs.
Finding the West Gate Solution
Location of the West Gate
To locate the West Gate, exit the mansion through the main entrance, then turn right. It will be directly ahead of you. You can access it similarly if you’ve unlocked any alternate exits; just return to the start and turn right away from the entrance. This won’t cost you any steps.
Rooms to Draft Before Unlocking the West Gate
Before you can break open the West Gate, you’ll need to draft two specific rooms in one run. First, create the Garage, followed by either a Utility Closet or a Boiler Room for power.
Now, while Blue Prince is all about exploration and taking notes, take your time. You’ll enjoy the game more if you work to solve the West Gate puzzle yourself before turning to a walkthrough. However, if you’ve drafted the Garage and the power source but are still stuck, continue for a more detailed guide on unlocking the West Gate.
How to Unlock the West Gate
Powering the Garage via the Boiler Room
To power the Garage using the Boiler Room, ensure the Garage is adjacent to or can be accessed from the Boiler Room, or connect them through rooms that share ducts. If a direct connection isn’t possible, consider these alternative floor plan options:
- Archives
- Boiler Room
- Darkroom
- Laboratory
- Locker Room
- Passageway
- Pump Room
- Security Room
In the Boiler Room, start by activating all three green tanks. Begin with the tank on the lower level next to the stairs and turn the valve to start it. After that, ensure the red pipes allow everything to flow into the adjacent tank. This action will activate a conveyor belt in front of the second tank; turn off the valve for the first tank when you can reach it.
Next, pull the lever next to the tank to direct the flow to the right, then follow the pipes upstairs to the third green tank. Turn its valve, then adjust the pipes and levers so power flows to the central console in the room. Finally, interact with the console and slide the controller towards the Garage or connecting room to establish the power connection.
How to Power the Garage with the Utility Closet
If the Boiler Room isn’t an option for you, you can power the Garage using a Utility Closet. Thankfully, you’re free to place the Utility Closet anywhere in the mansion, as long as you correctly solve its puzzle to connect it to the garage. Inside the Utility Closet, there’s a fuse box you need to manipulate to switch on the power and redirect it to the garage.
There’s a lot of work here, including a task to set the lights to specific colors. For our purposes, just toggle the switch next to the Garage to “on.”
Drafting & Opening the Garage
Next, you’ll need to draft the Garage. Note that the Garage must be drafted along the western edge of the mansion, as it features an electric door that connects to the outside, which is essential for accessing the West Gate shortly.
The Garage also holds several keys, so ensure you find them before proceeding.
Once inside the garage, hit the button by the metal door to open it. Step outside and follow the pathway; within moments, you’ll find yourself on the other side of the West Gate.
Rewards for Unlocking the West Gate
After unlocking it for the first time, the West Gate remains open even after daily resets. This allows you to construct Outer Rooms, each of which provides unique effects for your current run.
