The Atomfall Signal Redirector is probably the first tool you’ll encounter in the game. When you pass through the initial locked door in the bunker, you’ll find a junction box straight ahead that requires this tool to operate. As you explore further, you’ll come across many more of these boxes that can unlock doors and disable security systems, making the Signal Redirector essential. However, finding one isn’t easy.
There are two approaches to obtaining a Signal Redirector in Atomfall; one method takes more effort due to the significant consequences involved. Here’s a quick guide to getting the Atomfall Signal Redirector efficiently.
Locating the First Atomfall Signal Redirector
The first Signal Redirector is located inside Windfall’s Crate, which is found at the Protocol Field Station in Skethermoor. To access this spot, you’ll need the Windfall Key. You can explore leads like The Little Tea Room and The Windfall Shipment for clues, but they’re not mandatory. Here’s how to quickly grab the Signal Redirector:
- Head to the Protocol Workshop in Skethermoor at coordinates 38.0E, 77.4N. If you enter Skethermoor from Wyndham Village, stick to the northern edge until you spot it. The entrance hatch will be labeled Access L3.
- Inside, you’ll face many Protocol soldiers. Even with Captain Sims’ permission, they will still shoot you on sight since you’re trespassing. Proceed through the door at the end, take a right, then go left into the bathroom. Squeeze through the gap into a stall and climb over the ledge.
- In this area, you’ll discover the body of someone named Windfall against the wall. Along with a note, you will find the Windfall Keycard. You’re all set!
The note will instruct you to go to the Protocol Field Station in Skethermoor; now you can proceed there.
- The next bunker, labeled Access L2, is located at 41.3E, 74.9N and is also protected by soldiers on the surface. You can sneak past them through the gate or take caution as you proceed.
- This bunker will again be bustling with Protocol soldiers, so you can choose to confront them or sneak around to obtain the Signal Redirector. Head straight down the long tunnel to the end, and you’ll see a pneumatic tube on your right and another corridor on your left.
- Take the left turn and look for a green door on your left. In the far corner, you’ll find a note that reads, “A Crate From the Windfall Shipment?” and a BARD supply box called “Windfall’s Crate.” Inside are a Training Stimulant, First Aid Kit, and the all-important Signal Redirector.
You can put the Signal Redirector to use immediately, as there are two switches to experiment with inside the Protocol Field Bunker. If you’re uncertain about how it works, we provide more detailed instructions toward the end of this guide.
Finding the Second Atomfall Signal Redirector
If you prefer to avoid trespassing in two Protocol bunkers and battling numerous soldiers, you can also obtain a Signal Redirector as part of an investigation in Skethermoor. Here’s how:
- While exploring Wyndham and the surrounding quarantine zone, you’ll learn about Dr. Garrow, who is held captive by Protocol in Skethermoor Prison. She possesses the second Signal Redirector.
- If you earn Captain Sims’ trust by providing him with information about the townsfolk—such as informing him of a murder at the church—he’ll request you to interrogate Dr. Garrow. This will also grant you access that protects you from being targeted by Protocol soldiers at both the camp and the prison.
- However, if you want to avoid siding with Protocol, you can skip this step and go straight to Skethermoor Prison at 41.1E, 70.8N.
- Inside, proceed to the room at the bottom of the stairs to grab the Security Keycard and unlock the gate to the Holding Cells. You’ll find a note titled “Prisoner Transfer: Diane Garrow” on the desk, indicating that she’s in solitary confinement at the back of the facility and that an “unknown electrical device” is in the Restricted Access Security storage cupboard.
- If you have permission to be in the prison, you can walk right through the Holding Cells without issue. Move through the door marked Lower Floor, descend the stairs, and then pass through the door across the bridge. Exploring Skethermoor Prison is worthwhile as you won’t be shot at, and there’s plenty of loot to collect. Just be aware that interacting with Dr. Garrow might make everyone hostile, complicating your exploration later on.
- In the Restricted Access section, you’ll find Dr. Garrow in a cell on the main floor. She’ll inform you that you’ll need the Signal Redirector to help her escape.
- Locate the Security room, and there you’ll find the Signal Redirector conveniently placed on a shelf, ready for you to take.
After getting the Signal Redirector, you have options. If you choose to help Dr. Garrow escape, use the Signal Redirector on a switch in a nearby room that requires climbing to reach. This will open the door to the Control Room, allowing you to pull a lever that frees all prisoners in the facility. This action will turn the Protocol guards hostile, making your escape significantly more difficult. Alternatively, you could speak to her again and return to Captain Sims, maintaining your alliance with him.
How to Use the Atomfall Signal Redirector
Similar to the Atomfall Metal Detector used for locating buried caches, the Signal Redirector will buzz when it’s near a signal box you can activate. Equip the tool by pressing Triangle/Y, aim it at the box using L2/LT, and when you’re close and the box is highlighted in white, press R2/RT to switch the signal.
Boxes with two outputs will toggle between them, while others may have three outputs. Make sure to activate the correct output by following the yellow cables connected to the box if you’re uncertain about their functions.
