Unlocking the Painted Realm in Black Myth: Wukong Explained

The Painted Realm is a special area that players can unlock in Chapter 3 of Black Myth: Wukong. To gain access to this secret domain, you need to acquire the Ruyi Scroll, a powerful item that will take you to the Zodiac Village found within the Painted Realm. Once you open the area, you’ll find key characters like the Zodiac Deities, Xu Dog, and Shen Monkey, making this village an essential hub for enhancing your gear, crafting potions, and collecting ingredients.

Along with Xu Dog and Shen Monkey, two additional NPCs will appear in the village. The first is Chen Loong, an old dragon who can plant seeds you’ve gathered during your journey, allowing for regular harvesting of ingredients. The second is Yin Tiger, the blacksmith, who can forge new weapons and upgrade any armor you’ve created. To acquire the Ruyi Scroll and unlock all the advantages of the Painted Realm, players must first overcome certain challenges.

Yin Tiger is a formidable fighter and can be challenged. If you defeat him, he will reward you with a new Transformation and an additional Curio Slot.

Once you accomplish this, he will create the pills that Chen Loong needs. Deliver these pills back to Chen Loong, and he will present you with the Ruyi Scroll, granting you access to the Painted Realm.

You can find Xu Dog close to the Village Entrance Keeper’s Shrine, near Sandgate Village. Head to the Shrine, then move towards the village. When you reach the wooden bridge, jump off to the right and proceed directly into the caverns where Xu Dog resides. He’ll ask you to retrieve his forgotten medicinal formulas that the giant frog, Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw, swallowed.

Keep going straight from Xu Dog’s location, and you’ll find the frog in a pond outside the cave. Defeat Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw and return the formulas to Xu Dog; he will now be able to craft medicines for you.

After that, Xu Dog will begin searching for his furnace to create even better medicines. Once you defeat the Tiger Vanguard in Crouching Tiger Temple, you’ll find Xu Dog again near the Cellar Keeper’s Shrine located below the Temple.

With his furnace found, Xu Dog will be able to craft Celestial Medicines. He can also create a special medicine for Chen Loong. After delivering it to Chen Loong, he will reward you with the Ruyi Scroll, which, when activated, opens a mystical portal to the Painted Realm.

You can access the Painted Realm anytime with the Ruyi Scroll. When you first enter, you’ll notice that Shen Monkey, Xu Dog, and Chen Loong have settled in Zodiac Village. Chat with Chen Loong located up the stairs from the Shrine, and discover he has a green thumb. He will plant any seeds you collect, taking care of the plants until they’re ready for harvesting ingredients, which you can then bring to Xu Dog nearby to create medicines.

Additionally, you’ll be able to request medicines from Xu Dog periodically. Keep exploring, and eventually, you’ll meet the blacksmith, Yin Tiger, in a large open area. With his forge, he’ll be able to enhance any armor pieces you own, provided you have the necessary materials. This means you can upgrade your favorite armor sets, boosting their defense and allowing you to equip pieces with unique abilities to strengthen your character.

If you decide to take on Yin Tiger in a duel, be prepared for a tough challenge. You might need a few attempts to understand his attack patterns and master your dodging techniques. However, if you succeed, you’ll earn a powerful new Transformation, Ebon Flow, and unlock a third Curio Slot. These rewards will significantly boost your combat prowess, helping you tackle tougher opponents with ease.

Be sure to use the Ruyi Scroll to return to Zodiac Village frequently to enhance the Destined One’s skills and gear. NPCs in the village will have new items available for sale as you progress, so don’t forget to check in with them often. As you journey further in Black Myth: Wukong in search of the Great Sage’s treasures, the Painted Realm will serve as a sanctuary where you can grow stronger and prepare for the many challenges ahead.
