When you first look at the map in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, it’s clear there’s a lot to discover. The game includes nine large regions, each with a recommended level to help you take on enemies without sustaining too much damage.
While you can progress through these regions by following the main storyline, there’s also plenty of side content available for those wanting to dive deeper into this expansive world. One of these side quests is Thrown to the Dogs, and here’s a guide on how to complete it.
How to Begin Thrown to the Dogs
For many side quests in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, you need to be at a certain point in the main story to access them. However, Thrown to the Dogs is one of the few quests that kicks off automatically once you complete the prologue and acquire your hideout in the Izumi Settsu region.
You can find this quest listed in your objectives, with its location marked on the map towards the western part of the area, right next to where Osaka is indicated. When you arrive, activate observe mode by pressing LT/L2/right-click, depending on your console, to locate the dog marked with a blue dot.
Finding the Key
After a brief cutscene with the dog, you’ll need to trail him along a narrow path that leads to several buildings. However, be prepared to confront multiple bandits standing in your way; you must defeat them for the dog to proceed. Eventually, you’ll arrive at a spot with several NPCs.
At this stage, you’ll have the choice to either overcome the NPCs or let them be, but the next critical part of the quest requires you to locate a key for a chest in a grave. You’ll see multiple blue dots on your map, but the specific key you need is located underneath one of the structures.
The dot will appear to be right at the entrance of the building, but don’t be fooled; you can’t interact with anything inside.
To retrieve the key, head to the back of the building, where you’ll find a small hole at the base that allows you to crawl through. Inside, you can pick up the key and bring it back to the grave where you discovered the dog. This will conclude the quest.
