“The Iris and the Minstrel” is a side quest in Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven, where you’ll embark on a journey across the game world to find a minstrel who has lost his musical instruments. The quest duration will depend on how much of the map you’ve uncovered, so it’s something to consider before diving in.
How to Begin “The Iris and the Minstrel”
This quest becomes available after you first unlock Yuyan. You can reach it by taking a boat from Teretuva.
Once in Yuyan, head into the tavern for a drink. The bartender will inform you about a minstrel who encountered the Iris of Mt. Chikapa and mentions he has traveled north in search of something.
Walkthrough for “The Iris and the Minstrel” Quest
Before you head out, chat with one of the tavern’s patrons, then make your way to your first stop, Mowlie. You can reach this location by taking the east exit from Salamat.
In Mowlie, talk to the sailor at the docks and accept his invitation to travel to Tsukijima, located on Comroon Island. Once in Tsukijima, enter the Inn/Tavern, and speak to the trader near the entrance to unlock Zemio.
Before heading to Zemio, make sure you’ve unlocked the Stone Boats if you haven’t already—they’re necessary to cross the lava. You’ll need to begin a quest that allows you to unlock the Amazon class to gain access.
To find the Amazon Village, exit Salamat through the southernmost point. Save the Amazon, then look left to locate the Stone Boats.
The Amazons will only allow entry into their village if you are playing as a female Emperor, but you can still get the Stone Boats regardless.
Now that you have the Stone Boats, head to Zemio and cross the lava to the western part of the map. Enter the building there and talk to the Salamander—you’ll learn that the minstrel’s next destination is Hofah in Cumberland. Don’t forget to collect his first instrument, the Minstrel’s Guitar, before leaving.
In Hofah, look for a young girl in the eastern section of the town, close to the farm. She’ll inform you that your next stop is the Steppe, specifically the Nomad Village, which can move around various locations. If you haven’t visited yet, explore the Steppe, exiting at different points until you find it.
Once at the Nomad Village, talk to the young boy by the entrance, then proceed to Ponente in the Savannah. As with the previous step, explore the area until you discover Ponente.
Here, converse with the young girl near the save point, then head to the Mole Den. Speak with the mole by the entrance who will inform you that the minstrel’s trail leads you back to Teretuva. Before leaving the Mole’s Den, make sure to visit the back room to retrieve the next instrument, the Minstrel’s Conga.
Now go to Teretuva and talk to the young boy sitting on a bench in the southern part of town. He’ll guide you to Atlanticus, where you can find a sailor at the docks who will send you onward to Toba.
At Toba, head to the docks and speak with the old woman. She’ll tell you that the minstrel moved on to Saigo Village after losing his instrument to corsairs.
In Saigo Village, approach the young boy, which will unlock the Minstrel’s Cave, a dungeon specific to this quest.
Inside the Minstrel’s Cave, you’ll encounter enemies that are mainly weak to Earth and Wind attacks, along with some that are vulnerable to Swords, Greatswords, and Clubs. Navigate through this area until you reach the deepest section, where you’ll face off against the Crab Rider boss.
This trio of enemies is relatively weak and also susceptible to Earth and WindMinstrel’s Flute.
Next, head to Nuono and speak to the Corsair, before entering the back room to collect the following instrument, the Minstrel’s Bassoon. You might actually obtain this instrument earlier once you learn about the boat accident in Atlanticus.
Your subsequent destination is Avalon. Talk to the young girl near the fountain, then visit the Inn nearby and ask the receptionist about the minstrel. Go to the room where he stayed to grab the final instrument, the Minstrel’s Horn.
With all five instruments in hand, make your way to Mt. Chikapa, where the Iris are said to reside.
As you explore this area, follow the quest marker. Expect to encounter several rock formations and gaps that require careful navigation. The enemies you’ll face are primarily vulnerable to Fire damage, Shortswords, and Bows; having party members skilled in these elements will make this dungeon much easier.
Continue climbing until you reach the summit of Mt. Chikapa and find the save point. Proceed forward to witness a cutscene that transports you to the Iris Village.
Finally, once you arrive at Iris Village, the Iris Windy will invite you to join your team, thus unlocking the Iris class for use in your adventures ahead.
