Metal Slug Tactics follows a classic roguelike structure. The Peregrine Falcons battle their way to Sirocco City to confront the Jupiter King, only for Morden to escape with a sinister laugh. After the skirmish, everyone retreats to headquarters, and the fight begins anew.
It’s frustrating for players to see the antagonist get away time after time. If only there were a way to prevent his escape after defeating the Jupiter King. Fortunately, with some preparation over multiple runs, you can achieve this goal.
How to Prevent Morden’s Escape
Morden relies on his three generals—Abbas, Paqar, and O’Neill—to facilitate his getaway. If any one of them escapes at the end of your run, you won’t unlock the true ending. Your first step is to draw out each of the generals individually across separate runs.
You must defeat Morden at least once and allow him to escape to trigger this chain of events.
During your initial run, be sure to complete missions that offer a Medal reward. While these challenges might be tougher, accomplishing them will hint at the location of one of the generals. As you’ll explore various regions, it’s important to remember that if you’re targeting a specific general, you should start in a differing region from their home base. Here’s the breakdown:
To fight… |
Start in… |
Then Go To… |
And End In… |
---|---|---|---|
Abbas |
Herkhanet Tombs |
Soursop Jungle |
Argun Palm Desert |
O’Neill |
Soursop Jungle |
Argun Palm Desert |
Herkhanet Tombs |
Paqar |
Argun Palm Desert |
Herkhanet Tombs |
Soursop Jungle |
If you’re on the right path to track down a general, you’ll notice the Rebel Army symbol on the map indicating your next destination. You must proceed to that region and complete its Medal objective to continue progressing in the story; otherwise, you’ll have to wait for your next run.
Once you reach the third region after completing the Medal objectives in the first two, a general will appear. Taking them down counts as one of your missions before facing the War Machine boss, so you’ll need to contend with both the general and the War Machine.
True Ending Run
After defeating all three generals in separate rounds, you can attempt to take on all of them in a single campaign. At the start of a new run, look for the Rebel Army Symbol on the map. Head to the indicated region and battle the general located there, just like before. Once you defeat them and eliminate the War Machine, repeat this in the remaining two regions.
If you manage to survive and defeat Abbas, Big Shiee, O’Neill, Aeshi Nero, Paqar, and Dragon Nosuke all in the same run, continue on to Sirocco City and face Morden. After his second phase, instead of escaping, the battle will transition into a third phase.
The final showdown against Morden’s Jupiter King takes place on a complicated L-shaped map, making movement tricky. Characters with the Parkour passive ability and teleportation skills will have a significant advantage in dodging the numerous lasers and taking cover from O’Neill’s minigun fire.
As in the second phase, you will get a full health restoration and ammunition refill at the start of the third phase. However, you won’t receive any additional reinforcements. If you’ve reached this stage, your team is likely prepared; stick to the tactics that brought you to this climactic battle. Once you defeat the Jupiter King for the final time, you’ll unlock the True Ending along with the associated Achievement/Trophy.
