Loot Boxes have been a classic feature in Overwatch, and in Overwatch 2, they return with a fresh approach. Whether you’re just starting out and want to customize your favorite hero or you’re a seasoned player looking to complete your collection, knowing how to earn and open Loot Boxes effectively can give you a stylish advantage.
Before diving into matches or the battle pass, let’s break down the essentials: how to obtain these boxes, what you can find inside them, and tips to maximize your rewards.
How to Obtain Loot Boxes
You can earn Loot Boxes simply by playing the game. Each week, you can acquire up to three Loot Boxes by completing up to 27 games, with wins counting as double. You can keep track of your progress by clicking ‘Play’ and checking the tracker located in the top-left corner of the game selection screen. Additionally, you can earn Loot Boxes by completing specific event challenges, which you can find on the right side of your home screen.
The Battle Pass also rewards you with several legendary Loot Boxes, available through both free and premium tracks.
To open your Loot Boxes, simply click the ‘Loot Boxes’ button on the left side of the homepage, located just beneath the ‘Battle Pass’ button.
Furthermore, you can unlock one free legendary Loot Box from the free track of the battle pass, and the premium track offers two additional legendary Loot Boxes.
What Can You Get from Loot Boxes?
Each Loot Box contains four cosmetic items chosen from a curated selection of Overwatch and Overwatch 2 items. The items are randomly picked when you open the box, with the system working to give you items you don’t already have. If the Loot Box cannot avoid duplicates, it will help you make progress toward earning a bonus Loot Box instead.
Here are the types of items you might find:
- Skins
- Emotes
- Victory Poses
- Weapon Charms
- Souvenirs
- Voice Lines
- Sprays
Unused Loot Boxes from earlier seasons will automatically be opened at the beginning of each new season, adding all items to your collection.
