In the game Fields of Mistria, there’s a lot to keep you busy on your farm, making it a great idea to connect with your neighbors. Establishing bonds in the town can truly change your gaming experience, whether it’s through friendships or romantic relationships.
One character you’ll encounter as you progress through the game is Caldarus. You’ll actually be in touch with him right from the start, but he remains a statue until certain milestones are met. Here’s a guide on how to unlock Caldarus and pursue a romantic connection with him as a farmer.

How to Unlock Caldarus
Caldarus isn’t immediately available as a romance option. While you can speak with him and complete tasks he assigns from the beginning, he essentially remains a statue until you reach certain game progress. To unlock his character, you must venture deep into the mines and reach floor 60, where you’ll find the Fire Seal that needs to be broken.
Warning: Spoilers for the main storyline ahead if you want to avoid learning too much about Mistria’s secrets.
Breaking the Fire Seal
Once you reach the 60th floor of the mines, be sure to take the rubbing of the fire seal and bring it to Juniper for translation. She’ll provide you with a list of items needed to move forward.
To successfully break the fire seal, you’ll need the following items:
- Emerald
- Faceted Rock Gem
- Rockroot
- Sealing Scroll
Tip: Bring all these materials to the altar. A cutscene will follow where Caldarus transforms into a humanoid and then retreats to the Deep Woods.
Entering the Deep Woods
The Deep Woods are obstructed by thick, tangled thorns located near the carpenter’s shop on the eastern side of town. You’ll need to utilize the Dragon’s Breath spell to clear the brambles blocking the path.
Once you get inside the woods, head to the right. You’ll have to either jump over a stump or chop it down, then proceed north to find the temple. Inside, you’ll find Caldarus resting.
Tip: After the cutscene concludes, Caldarus becomes an active member of Mistria, though he predominantly stays at the temple.

In every relationship, knowing someone’s favorite things can strengthen your bond. After becoming active, Caldarus enjoys spending time in his humanoid form and appreciates the delicious foods available in town.
You can find Caldarus at his temple in the Deep Woods. To see him often, you might want to use the teleportation statue for quick access. Below are Caldarus’s favorite gifts that’ll help you win him over:

As of now, there aren’t any heart events lined up for Caldarus, though his heart icon is yellow when he’s in his humanoid form. This may indicate a close bond, considering you’ve been collaborating from the beginning to explore the mines and practice magic together.
Caldarus seems genuinely concerned about the Sealing Scroll situation, indicating that he has a strong connection with you since he awakened to come to your aid.
Only characters open to love display a heart icon next to their name, so it’s likely we could see more developments with Caldarus in future updates!
