Unlock Shiny Meloetta in Pokémon HOME: A Complete Guide

For the very first time, Trainers can get their hands on Shiny Meloetta through a new reward program linked to the Pokémon HOME app. To unlock this elusive Shiny Mythical Pokémon, you’ll need to have a copy of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet on the Nintendo Switch as well as the expansions: The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk.

While the main objective of most Pokémon games is to catch them all, some Trainers take it a step further by aiming to find Shiny variants of each Pokémon. These unique versions have different colors and are notoriously difficult to catch. Although Shiny hunting became a bit easier in the Scarlet & Violet titles, Pokémon like Shiny Meloetta had been completely unattainable… until now.

How to Obtain Shiny Meloetta in Pokémon HOME

A Lengthy Quest to Complete All Three Scarlet & Violet Pokédexes

To earn your Shiny Meloetta, you must complete the Paldea Pokédex, the Kitakami Pokédex, and the Blueberry Academy Pokédex within the Pokémon HOME app. This will require you to capture every Pokémon in the Pokémon Scarlet & Violet game on Nintendo Switch and then transfer them to the Pokémon HOME app, which is quite a lengthy task.

For the first requirement, you must have completed the main game of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet on the Nintendo Switch and captured or evolved every Pokémon listed in the Paldea Pokédex, which consists of a total of 400 Pokémon.

It’s essential to catch these Pokémon directly in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet and transfer them to Pokémon HOME for them to count towards your challenge; Pokémon obtained in earlier games will not be eligible.

Next, you’ll need to complete The Teal Mask expansion and capture all Pokémon in the Kitakami Pokédex. This group totals 200 Pokémon, including the Legendary Ogerpon and the Loyal Three trio: Okidogi, Monkidori, and Fezandipiti. This task is smaller than the Paldea Pokédex but still requires a significant time investment.

Finally, you must finish The Indigo Disk expansion and secure every Pokémon in the Blueberry Academy Pokédex, which includes a total of 243 Pokémon. This list also features returning starter Pokémon like Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, which can only be acquired by using Blueberry Points (BP) to ‘boost biodiversity’ within each Biome of the Terarium.

You can ‘boost biodiversity’ by engaging with the Support Board in the BB League Club Room. Each boost costs 3000 BP, so you will need to put in some time to gather enough BP.

Once you’ve caught every Pokémon in the Paldea, Kitakami, and Blueberry Academy Pokédexes, you need to transfer them all to the Pokémon HOME app on Nintendo Switch. After completing all three Pokédex sets, you’ll be rewarded with your own Shiny Meloetta, making you among the first Trainers in the world to have one.

Previously, you could catch a standard Meloetta in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s Indigo Disk expansion, but obtaining it was quite a complex process. You had to go to a specific location on the map, perform a spinning motion for a set duration, open the camera, and use a particular filter. Now, dedicated Trainers have the chance to finally add a Shiny Meloetta to their collection.
