Disney Dreamlight Valley features two types of currency: Star Coins and Moonstones. Star Coins can be spent to buy clothing, decorations, and various items from shops throughout the game. In contrast, Moonstones serve as a secondary type of currency that provides access to special experiences and items not available for purchase with Star Coins, giving players advantages not typically granted by standard gameplay.
The primary method for acquiring Moonstones is through real-money purchases. The cost of Moonstones varies, selling in packs from 1,200 for $4.99 to 14,500 for $49.99. Although you can buy Moonstones to enhance your gaming experience, it is not necessary to purchase them to enjoy the game. Fortunately, there are several ways to earn Moonstones without spending any money.
What Moonstones Do In Disney Dreamlight Valley
Moonstones Are A Premium Currency
Moonstones allow you to shop at the Premium store in Disney Dreamlight Valley. This is where you can find exclusive cosmetics, companion characters, furniture, and other unique items that you won’t find at Scrooge’s store or anywhere else in the Valley.
Unlike other game aspects that sync across platforms, Moonstones are platform-specific and cannot be transferred between consoles. However, any Moonstones earned for free are available no matter which platform you choose to play on.
Additionally, Moonstones can be used to unlock the Premium Star Path, which offers more redeemable rewards. Players can purchase additional Tokens for the Star Path using Moonstones, which can be helpful when certain tasks are difficult or time-consuming to complete.
How to Get Free Moonstones in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Four Main Ways to Obtain Free DDV Moonstones
The most straightforward way to get Moonstones in Disney Dreamlight Valley is through purchasing them. However, non-paying players can also find several methods to earn this currency without spending any money, which can help them gain access to a Premium Star Path or obtain a desired item from the store.
Seek the Daily Blue Chest
Each day, a blue chest appears somewhere in the Valley. Players should make it a priority to find these chests, as each one contains 50 Moonstones. Although a blue chest will always spawn daily, its location can vary throughout the Valley, including in areas that players have yet to unlock.
In my experience, I easily stumbled upon a blue chest during a new playthrough, so it’s beneficial to keep an eye out for these while completing daily activities in DDV, as the Moonstones can add up quickly.
Take Part in DreamSnaps Challenges
DreamSnaps are themed photography contests that take place weekly, providing players the chance to compete for prizes. Each week’s theme varies, so participants must create photos that fit the theme. DreamSnaps are one of the best ways to earn Moonstones in the game.
To participate in DreamSnaps, you need to ensure that Vanellope is a resident of the Valley.
Simply participating in these challenges earns you at least 300 Moonstones, plus additional rewards like furniture and clothing. The winners can receive even more, with first-place earning up to 5,500 Moonstones. Players also have the opportunity to earn an extra 50 Moonstones per challenge by voting on other entries.
Redeeming Rewards on Star Paths
Disney Dreamlight Valley introduces new Star Paths periodically, allowing players to complete quests to gain Tokens. These Tokens can then be traded for various themed rewards, including Moonstones.
Every Star Path offers the potential to earn 20,000 Moonstones if all reward tiers are completed. Even if certain tasks seem challenging to finish on time, it’s still worth attempting the initial pages, as they are typically more manageable for newcomers. Each rewards page reveals progressively more Moonstones, starting from 100 on the first page.
Enter Reward Codes
Another method for obtaining free Moonstones in Disney Dreamlight Valley is by redeeming special codes. You can enter these codes in-game through Settings, then Help, and inserting the code in the Redemption Code field. New codes are regularly released by Disney, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the company’s social media for updates on redeemable codes.
Although most codes provide various items, there are occasions when Moonstones are available as rewards. These special redeemable codes are the least frequent method to gain Moonstones in the game, but they are worth noting.
