Oblivion Remastered is an expansive game, making it challenging to condense countless hours of gameplay into a few concise tips. Nonetheless, we’ve gathered some essential guidelines and strategies to help you navigate your experience in Oblivion Remastered more effectively.
While you can gain a wealth of knowledge by simply playing the game, starting your journey in Oblivion Remastered with a plan for managing your loot, tackling combat, and setting initial objectives can significantly enhance your experience. Here’s a comprehensive list of tips to kick off your adventures in Oblivion Remastered.
Save Often and Be Prepared for Glitches
Oblivion has made the importance of saving a well-known guideline among RPGs, but this advice is especially crucial in Oblivion Remastered.
Despite its many enhancements, Oblivion Remastered still has its share of glitches. A notable example is Savlian Matius, a guard you encounter during the Siege of Kvatch, known for causing one of the game’s early glitches within the first few main missions.
During our playthrough, we had to save and reload because of a glitch within the first eight hours, so don’t underestimate how often they can occur.
Savlian Matius often glitches in the early Kvatch quest, repeatedly shouting “Charge the courtyard!” and hindering quest progression.
If you encounter this issue, continue into the Main Hall and head to the back room to loot the count’s body for a ring, which helps advance the quest.
Given the numerous glitches you might face, it’s wise to save often to avoid the frustration of losing significant progress.
Be Mindful When Looting
Loot is abundant in Oblivion Remastered, with many hidden treasures available, especially in the early game. An example can be found in the chest during the tutorial section before facing the skeleton.
However, don’t get overly enthusiastic about picking up everything, as your carrying capacity is limited and tied to your Strength stat. Assess the value of items against their weight, particularly if you’re collecting them to sell later.
For instance, one of the early-game chests contains six gold coins and a weapon weighing 12 with a value of four coins. It’s wiser to take the weightless coins instead of loading yourself with an item valued at less than five coins.
While things change as you progress, it’s advisable that early-game items should ideally be worth at least double their weight to justify collecting them.
Learn Where to Sell Your Loot
After filling your inventory, you’ll need to locate merchants to sell your items. Keep in mind that not all vendors will buy every item; each specializes in specific goods.
Therefore, it’s best to visit shops that align with the items you want to sell, as this often yields better prices.
Additionally, stealing becomes less profitable until you join the Thieves Guild, where you’ll have access to a network of merchants willing to buy stolen items, unlike honest merchants.
Lead Your Foes to Allies
You can use the environment to your advantage by leading enemies to guards or allies for assistance, particularly helpful in the game’s early stages when your gear may be lacking.
Keep your distance and maneuver enemies into the sight of allied guards or NPCs, making use of their help in combat. This approach takes a little practice, but it’s very effective.
Don’t Hesitate to Choose the Atronach Birth Sign
Selecting the Atronach Birth Sign may appear daunting, as it disables natural Magicka regeneration. However, this limitation is manageable with the right strategies.
The Atronach provides:
- 150 extra Magicka points
- A 50% chance of Spell Absorption
- No natural Magicka regeneration
Utilizing the Basin of Renewal in the Arena can refresh your health and Magicka after arena battles, making it easier to cope with the Atronach’s disadvantages. Just finish an arena fight first, which is usually manageable once you’ve mastered the questline.
You can achieve a similar effect by visiting Wayshrines as well.
Moreover, you’ll come across and can create many potions throughout your journey that replenish Magicka, so there are ways around the Atronach’s major drawback. Plus, 50% spell absorption is one of the best perks you can start with.
Join Factions Early
Getting involved with various factions promptly is an excellent way to earn gold in the early stages of the game. Groups like the Fighter’s Guild provide access to a wealth of sellable items, which helps boost your funds and improves your Mercantile skills.
Simply joining a faction such as the Fighter’s Guild or Mage’s Guild allows you to loot items freely without consequences, ensuring a steady flow of loot to sell for gold.
If you prefer a more active approach to earning your gold, consider joining the Dark Brotherhood or the Thieves Guild to engage in theft or assassination.
Just be cautious not to fast travel to city gates with a high bounty and stolen goods, as guards may stop you before you know it.
