There are nearly endless ways to form a party in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Discovering the optimal combination can simplify battles and reduce unnecessary level grinding. You can have a maximum of four active party members, though some parts of the story may limit that number. Additionally, specific characters might be essential for a set period. Plan a core team you like and make minor adjustments as necessary.

In addition to the characters themselves, a key component of your party is the Archetypes. These act as classes found in other RPGs. While a character’s base stats may naturally fit a particular role, such as a melee fighter, tank, or spell caster, they can still fill any role. This flexibility becomes particularly noteworthy during the final boss battle, where each character obtains a unique Archetype, making them distinct in the closing phase of Metaphor: ReFantazio.

In Metaphor: ReFantazio, there are eight total party members. However, Grius, the third character, leaves before he can realize his full potential. While you may meet characters early on, they only unlock their Archetype’s complete power after an “Awakening” event in the narrative. Additionally, this doesn’t automatically make them Followers; you’ll often need to complete additional side quests to convert them.

Strohl is a staple fighter in Metaphor ReFantazio

As you progress through Metaphor: ReFantazio, party members will rotate in and out at various points in the storyline. Although you can focus on building the strongest party, it’s wise to keep backup members leveled up for emergencies. Additionally, having multiple Archetypes for your favorite characters is beneficial, though this might require extra grinding for MAG.

Best Month Six Party

The sixth month serves as an extensive tutorial in Metaphor: ReFantazio. During this time, you can’t choose your party members, only their Archetypes. Grius is a temporary character who never awakens his own Archetype, and you can’t have him and Hulkenberg in the party simultaneously.

Hulkenberg	Knight or Mage	Shield Arts: Deals weak strike damage and reduces enemy hit and evasion for three turns. Knight’s Proclamation: Redirects enemy attacks to himself instead of an ally. First Aid: Weak healing outside of battle.

Best Month Seven Party

Month seven grants you the complete party in Metaphor: ReFantazio thanks to the introduction of Heismay. His agility improves your accuracy and evasion, but he lacks in raw damage output. Remember to unlock optional Archetypes like Faker and Merchant, which require unique Royal Virtues for enhancement.

Best Month Eight Party

Junah and Eupha will become mandatory party members at specific moments in Metaphor: ReFantazio. This allows for effective planning when they are both available. However, when there are instances where they separate, consider including Hulkenberg for additional defense.

Best Month Nine Party

Basilio becomes the final party member and is more powerful than Strohl in melee combat. Instead of benching Strohl, using them both can significantly enhance your attack power. Basilio’s primary weakness lies in his poor magical abilities, making tactical Archetype switches less beneficial than with other characters in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Best Month Ten Party

As you approach the conclusion of Month Nine, you will start unlocking maximum Follower Bonds. By investing the time to level their Archetype lineage up to 20, along with a second lineage if applicable, you will unlock a special “Royal” Archetype during their first awakening. These archetypes offer unmatched offensive capabilities. The main character, Will, will achieve his Archetype just before reaching the final segments of the main narrative in Metaphor: ReFantazio.
