Destiny 2 is ringing in the end of 2024 with The Dawning, a festive event that has Guardians transforming the remnants of their enemies into tasty treats for their beloved characters. By sharing this holiday spirit, players earn Gifts in Return, which can be focused into special event weapons and cosmetics.
This year, players can grab six weapons from Eva Levante, including the brand-new Mistral Lift Linear Fusion Rifle. Many weapons from past Dawning events are returning, now enhanced with much-improved perk pools suitable for both PvE and PvP. Let’s take a closer look at these six weapons and the top perk combinations to go for during this limited-time winter event.
Albedo Wing
The Albedo Wing is an Arc Glaive that’s friendly for newer players thanks to its reasonable perk options. The ideal combo here is Replenishing Aegis and Close to Melee, which allows you to reload the Glaive when you block damage. When you hit a target with your Glaive projectile, it boosts your Glaive melee damage for a limited time. Even in PvP, that’s about all you need to know about Albedo Wing.
If you’re looking for an alternative, consider Air Trigger paired with Voltshot. This combo allows you to activate Jolt lightning on your next projectile after taking down an enemy while reloading. Jumping before you reload can significantly speed up the process, making the entire gameplay loop feel much smoother. However, this option is less effective than using Indebted Kindness or almost any Rocket Sidearm, so only opt for it if you don’t have any DLC weapons.

---|---|---|---|---|---|
PvE Roll | Auxiliary Reserves | Accurized Rounds | Replenishing Aegis | Close to Melee | Shield Duration |
PvP Roll | Auxiliary Reserves | Accurized Rounds | Replenishing Aegis | Close to Melee | Shield Duration |
Avalanche
Not much has changed with Avalanche this year. If you need a reliable Heavy weapon, you can still use Subsistence and Incandescent for PvE to clear out adds effectively. Taking down some lower-tier enemies builds up Scorch stacks, causing tougher foes to explode dramatically. For single-target DPS, consider using Rewind Rounds with Target Lock, although most Heavy weapons are typically much better for boss damage compared to a Machine Gun.
PvP enthusiasts will want to chase this reissue, as it can now be rolled with the excellent Closing Time perk in the first column. Pair this with Vorpal Weapon for a formidable Heavy weapon that excels at countering Supers and achieving easy multikills in both 3v3 and 6v6 modes.

Glacioclasm
Glacioclasm has seen a significant improvement in its perk pool this year. For PvE players, pairing Overflow with Reservoir Burst is a winning combination. When you pick up an ammo brick, it triggers Reservoir Burst for the top half of your overflowed magazine, greatly enhancing your add-clearing capability. If you need a backup for DPS, switch to Controlled Burst.
For PvP, don’t miss out on Glacioclasm either. While it’s not as broken as during the Forsaken era, it now has the powerful combination of Lone Wolf and Closing Time. These perks eliminate many of the drawbacks typically associated with High-Impact Fusions, like their slow handling and inability to function well without high range and stability. As long as you keep your magazine low, you’ll avoid those issues.

PvE Roll | Arrowhead Brake | Accelerated Coils | Overflow | Reservoir Burst | Charge Time |
PvP Roll | Arrowhead Brake | Particle Repeater | Lone Wolf | Closing Time | Stability |
Mistral Lift
If you missed the chance to obtain Doomed Petitioner last year, be sure to get Mistral Lift this Dawning. It’s the first Linear Fusion Rifle to roll with Envious Arsenal in the first trait column. This perk reloads the weapon from reserves whenever you inflict damage using your other two weapons. Pair it with Bait and Switch, and you’ll have a strong Heavy weapon for hotswap DPS strategies.
Switching things up, you can also opt for Rewind Rounds with Precision Instrument for a reliable DPS option against Champions and weaker bosses in endgame PvE. However, for PvP, it’s advisable to steer clear of this weapon; Linear Fusion Rifles simply can’t compete with the effectiveness of Machine Guns and Grenade Launchers.

Stay Frosty
This year, Stay Frosty has gained a significant upgrade. In PvE, you can use Rimestealer with Headstone to create a powerful Stasis weapon, easily generating Frost Armor by shattering Stasis crystals. If you’re after a more versatile weapon, consider Enlightened Action with Desperate Measures.
Where this firearm excels is in the Crucible. Thanks to its unique origin trait and solid stats, Stay Frosty can surpass most 450 Pulse Rifles with ease. For perks, Lone Wolf provides an impressive boost to weapon stats, and Kill Clip shortens its time-to-kill after securing a final blow. Get a kill, reload, and enjoy taking down two enemies with one of Destiny 2’s smoothest 450 Pulse Rifles.

PvP Roll | Smallbore | Accurized Rounds | Lone Wolf | Kill Clip | Range |
Zephyr
The reason to grab Zephyr is for the Cold Steel perk. This ability allows each swing to inflict Stasis Slow, enabling you to freeze targets with enough hits. It’s effective against Champions or for triggering Stasis synergies in PvE, but overall, it’s not as strong compared to The Slammer.

Equip yourself with these weapons and enjoy the festivities of The Dawning!
