Strategies to Defeat the Death Egg Robot

The initial boss fight in Sonic X Shadow Generations pits you against the formidable Death Egg Robot. This giant mechanical device, designed by Dr. Robotnik, aims to defeat Sonic and his allies. True to the classic Sonic gameplay, you’ll find yourself in a side-scrolling battle. What may seem like an easy fight at first quickly turns into a more challenging experience.

Before engaging the Death Egg Robot, you must unlock the encounter. Sonic X Shadow Generations takes you on a time-traveling adventure through various periods of the Sonic franchise, reintroducing familiar bosses like the Death Egg Robot, which also made an appearance in the Sonic 2 movie. Familiarize yourself with the controls and explore ahead to access this first boss battle.

How to Unlock the Death Egg Boss Fight

The Final Boss of Era One

To access the boss gate guarded by the Death Egg Robot, you must first gather three boss keys. These keys can be obtained by clearing challenge acts, which will appear after the boss gate is available. You can expect the boss gate to show up after completing two acts in each of the first three stages.

After finishing these six acts (Stage 1, Act 1; Stage 1, Act 2; Stage 2, Act 1; Stage 2, Act 2; Stage 3, Act 1; Stage 3, Act 2), the boss gate will unlock. You can choose any three challenge acts from the completed stages, and as long as you collect the keys, you’ll have what you need to open the Death Egg Robot boss gate.

Death Egg Boss Stats & Attacks

For Boss One: Keep It Simple

The Death Egg Robot, as the game’s first boss, offers a relatively straightforward challenge. After a brief cutscene, you’ll jump right into the action, and you can catch the full encounter on YouTube, thanks to ShackNews. Throughout its two phases, you’ll need to stay alert for just three primary attacks:

Attack

Description

Targeting Hand Slam

A targeting reticle will follow Sonic, pausing briefly before the hand slams down into the designated area.

Jump Slam

After a series of hand slams, the robot will slowly raise itself before crashing down with a jump, aiming to crush Sonic beneath it.

Bombs

These aren’t direct attacks but rather stage hazards. Be mindful not to collide with them.

During the first phase, you should focus on dodging both the Hand Slam and Jump Slam. Both attacks are clearly telegraphed, making them easy to avoid if you react in time; simply shift out of the way before they connect. While bombs won’t target you directly, they can inflict damage if you’re not careful. The hand slam will be a constant threat throughout the fight, but the jump slam is only relevant in phase one.

Master the Hit-and-Run Technique

Phase two of the Death Egg Robot fight in Sonic X Shadow Generations

The Death Egg Robot fight features two distinct phases. In the first phase, focus on dodging both the Hand Slam and Jump Slam attacks. The Hand Slam can be baited by standing still and sidestepping at the right moment. The jump attack is relatively slow; avoid it to end up behind the robot when it lands. Once it lands, deliver hits to the green and black underside of the robot, reminiscent of confronting Bowser in Super Mario Odyssey. You’ll need to strike it twice to transition to the second phase.

In the second phase, the combat grows in intensity, but the principles remain the same. Here, you’ll need to activate the blue buttons scattered around the arena to arm the bombs. Then, lure the hand slam attack into one of the bombs. This will stun the hand, allowing you to jump on it, ascend the arm, and strike the robot on its head. Repeat this two more times to defeat the boss.

Consider triggering the bombs closer to the ground for an easier jump onto the stunned arm.

The Death Egg Robot represents just the first of many bosses in the Sonic X Shadow Generations, and it’s one of the easiest. As long as you have a solid understanding of the basic movement, dodging, spinning, and attacking mechanics, you should defeat this boss without much trouble. Now, gear up to dive into era two, where you’ll delve deeper into the nostalgic world of the game, exploring the complexities of Shadow’s character and his resurrection.
