Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred

In Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, you’ll explore Nahantu, a lush jungle located in the southern part of Sanctuary, which serves as the original home of the Spiritborn. This new class introduced in the expansion is a swift and agile melee fighter that taps into the powers of the spiritual realm.

The Spiritborn harnesses abilities tied to four unique spirit animals: Jaguar, Eagle, Gorilla, and Centipede. Each spirit grants distinct abilities that can be utilized individually or combined to build powerful character plays. Below, we explore essential details about the Spiritborn class and an overview of each spirit’s unique traits.

Spiritborn Overview

The Spiritborn is characterized by its connection to the four spirit animals: Jaguar, Eagle, Gorilla, and Centipede. Skills are represented by these spirits, and abilities within each spirit typically work well together. Constructing your build is often straightforward since you can focus on just one spirit and choose skills accordingly.

Although certain skills across different spirits shine in all builds, it’s commonly more beneficial to blend skills from two or more spirits while centering your build around one primary spirit.

Spiritborn characters primarily rely on Dexterity as their main attribute, equipping weapons such as Polearms, Glaives, and Quarterstaffs.

The Spirit Hall

Upon reaching level 15 and completing the Spiritborn class quest, you’ll unlock access to the Spirit Hall. In the Spirit Hall, you can select one primary spirit passive that shapes your playing style. When you hit level 30, you’ll have the option to choose a secondary passive.

The primary passive also transforms all skills of the chosen spirit into that spirit type. For instance, selecting the Eagle passive means all skills will now be defined as Eagle skills. This feature enhances synergy with skills and Legendary Aspects linked to a specific spirit, making it a strategic choice for gameplay.

Jaguar Spirit Overview

The abilities associated with the Jaguar spirit focus on rapid, multi-hit attacks. Each individual hit might deal moderate damage, but when these hits are strung together, they become significantly powerful. The primary skill under the Jaguar banner is Ferocity, which provides an increase to your attack speed by five for each stack, up to four stacks.

You accumulate Ferocity mainly through the Core skill Rake and the third hit from the Basic Attack called Thrash. Pairing it with the Unique Quarterstaff Sepazontec, which activates only the third hit of Thrash, can make it easier to maintain Ferocity.

Accumulating Ferocity also offers additional benefits like increased Life on Kill, amplified damage, and reduced cooldowns for certain abilities.

Eagle Spirit Overview

The Eagle spirit is the embodiment of mobility. Its major passive allows your dodging maneuver to fire Storm Feathers, inflicting Vulnerable status and dealing considerable damage. Vulnerable is integral to Eagle builds, as most Eagle abilities either depend on or inflict this status.

If you focus on an entire Eagle build, you’ll be zipping around quickly, dodging incoming attacks and applying Vulnerable to all enemies in sight. This is one of the strongest and fastest Spiritborn builds available and is especially effective for leveling up since it requires minimal Legendary Aspects or Unique items to excel.

Gorilla Spirit Overview

The Gorilla spirit emphasizes Thorns, damage mitigation, and the special buff known as Resolve. Resolve is a stacking buff that reduces damage taken on the next attack by 20 percent, and once used, one stack is removed. Players can acquire Resolve through various skills, most of which revolve around using or expending it.

Thorns damage plays a significant role in the Gorilla spirit’s uniqueness. The Gorilla Basic Skill, Rock Splitter, unleashes your Thorns damage in an area upon hitting three times. When combined with Sepazontec, this allows for consistent area damage as you trigger the third hit repeatedly.

Gorilla builds boast excellent survivability, and the Armoured Hide Defensive skill is a helpful choice across all spirit types.

Centipede Spirit Overview

The Centipede spirit offers straightforward yet satisfying gameplay. Opting for skills and passives tied solely to the Centipede spirit is a viable strategy, making it simple to set up and gain immediate results. As anticipated, the Centipede spirit is centered around poison damage and effectively debilitating opponents.

Most of the Centipede skills involve applying poison effects, in addition to debuffs like slowing down enemies or diminishing the damage they inflict. Furthermore, the Centipede spirit includes mechanisms for healing by siphoning life from poisoned foes.

While poison damage stands strong on its own, it truly shines when combined with the Noxious Resonance Key Passive, which causes poison damage to explode when you deliver a Critical Strike to an affected enemy. This capability serves to maximize the potential for quickly diminishing the health of tougher foes by enhancing your Critical Strike Chance.
