When you first set up your new Meta Quest 3 headset, you have a few different ways to create an account. One of the easiest options is to use an existing Facebook account. However, many users prefer not to connect their Facebook profile to their gaming device for privacy reasons.
If you already have a Facebook or Instagram account, you might have unknowingly interacted with Meta’s ecosystem. These accounts are typically linked, which enables you to share your Instagram posts directly to Facebook or tag friends on both platforms. Now, your Meta Quest headset can also interface with these social accounts.
Various Ways to Set Up Your Meta Quest 3
While linking your headset to your Facebook account can simplify the setup process, it’s not mandatory. If you have the Facebook app logged in on your mobile, you may see that option during setup, but you can also choose to create a dedicated Meta account solely for your headset.
This will provide you with the privacy you might desire when using your VR headset. If you don’t wish to use Facebook, simply bypass that option during account creation and proceed with an email instead. You might also notice options to link your Instagram account while setting up the Meta Quest 3 in the Meta Horizons app, which you can ignore if you prefer not to connect those social networks.
Create a Meta Account Using Just Your Email
To start, you’ll need to download the Meta Horizons app. Once the app is launched, you’ll encounter a login screen prompting you to either sign in to an existing account or create a new one. Your Facebook and Instagram accounts will be visible with icons next to them. To avoid Facebook login, select the option that says "Continue With Email."
If you change your mind later and decide you want to link your Facebook or Instagram account, you can still do this. Just look for the prompt on the home screen or access the settings later.
After choosing "Continue With Email," enter your desired email address and hit continue. You’ll need to provide some personal information such as your name, date of birth, and a password. Before completing the setup, you’ll confirm your details and enter a verification code sent to your email. After you’ve done this, just click continue.
If you’re setting up a new Meta Quest 3, select the option to set up a headset and follow the on-screen instructions. If you’re preparing an account for use later, you can skip this part and add devices afterward in the Meta Horizons app settings.
If you’ve previously set up a Meta Quest 2, you can log in with the same email. This allows you to connect your new Meta Quest 3 to that account and transfer any existing purchases. If you’re creating a new account, you’ll be prompted to create an avatar, which you can customize later or skip for now by closing the avatar setup window.
Next, you’ll choose whether you want your profile to be public or private. If you’re concerned about others viewing your account details or gaming activity, opt for the private setting. Finally, you should see a prompt asking if you are indeed setting up a new headset.
With these steps completed, your Meta account will be successfully created and ready for use.
