ReFantazio: Is Assisting Glodell the Right Choice?

Assisting Glodell marks a significant turning point in Metaphor: ReFantazio‘s story, forcing players to decide between their own interests and tactical advantages. When you meet Glodell, who is vying for the throne, he’s caught in a fierce clash with another contestant. This situation gives players the chance to step in and help Glodell, an action that immediately influences the storyline and affects relationships with other characters.

Glodell is not a very likable character, making it hard to feel sorry for him or sympathize with his predicaments. It might seem easier to let him handle his problems alone, yet the game suggests that this choice is crucial. It raises questions about whether stepping in to help could have negative effects later. Fortunately, the implications aren’t overly complicated, and Louis will appreciate your decision no matter what.

This sets the stage for a major plot development for the main character, as noted below.

Should You Lend a Hand?

Metaphor: ReFantazio appears to be serious. However, for the sake of role-playing, your best move is to help Glodell. Despite his unappealing nature, lending a hand has a strategic benefit. Your party’s aim is to catch Count Louis’s eye, and assisting one of his men, even reluctantly, is a smart way to achieve that. So, jump in and help him as soon as possible.

Engaging in the fight against Gideaux won’t substantially change anything; it won’t even make him a playable character. However, whether you decide to step in or not, the results will essentially be the same. Ultimately, Strohl and Hulkenberg will step in anyway, compelling you to participate in the battle. The true essence of your choice lies in role-playing. If you want your character to help reluctantly, you can refuse initially. For a more heroic angle, agree to help right away. Regardless, you’ll end up supporting Glodell and fighting Gideaux.

What If You Say No?

Although Metaphor: ReFantazio allows you to decide whether to assist Glodell, this choice is somewhat misleading. It feels like a classic false option typical in games. The storyline progresses in the same manner, regardless of your choice, and you’ll still have to engage in a confrontation. If you opt not to intervene, Strohl and Hulkenberg will come to your aid, dragging you into the fight anyway. Therefore, it’s really a chance to follow your own desires without worrying too much about the consequences.

After defeating Gideaux’s allies, you’ll have a brief conversation with an annoyed Glodell, who remains distrustful and unfriendly no matter what decision you made earlier. Louis will arrive, questioning your presence, leading to a series of predetermined responses that culminate in your announcement of candidacy for the throne. This pivotal moment is meant to happen, so whether you help Glodell or not, the outcome will stay the same. Rest assured, this choice won’t dictate the future of Metaphor: ReFantazio.
