As you approach the final stages of the Suikoden 1 HD Remaster, you will gather enough team members to elevate your castle to its highest level. Achieving this level will unlock the ability to recruit some of the game’s most sought-after characters.
This guide will highlight the select few late-game recruits that become available at this stage. Many of them can be found in dungeons, and we will direct you on where to locate them. Use this guide to confidently find all final characters and collect all 108 Stars of Destiny.
How Can I Tell If My Castle Is Level Four?
The castle at Toran Lake upgrades as you recruit more members. You will reach level two with 25 recruits, level three with 45, and level four once you have 90 members.
Keep in mind that temporary absences of characters from your army do not count toward the total. This may happen with certain characters during the final part of the game, including Viktor after defeating Neclord.
Every time you enter your castle after it levels up, an animation will play showcasing its development. A large flag will be displayed in front of the castle when it reaches level four.
If you believe your castle should have leveled up but hasn’t, try leaving by boat and coming back. It’s likely it will upgrade for you during your return.
How to Recruit Leon Silverberg
Out of all the level four castle recruits, Leon Silverberg is the one you should prioritize. After upgrading your castle, head to Kalekka and talk to him. Next, return to Mathiu and share Leon’s message. Mathiu will provide you with a letter, which you must take back to Kalekka and present it to Leon for him to join your group.
This sounds straightforward, right? However, you can only deliver the letter to Mathiu while he is in his room. Once you reach this part of the game, Mathiu frequently stays in the command room, making it less likely for you to locate him.
If you venture into the Shasarazade dungeon, it will be too late to recruit Leon, and you will miss the chance to complete the game.
How to Recruit Clive
No character has as much confusion surrounding him as Clive. Despite the chatter, recruiting him is quite simple. Once your castle hits level four, go to Rikon. Clive may occasionally show up in the inn’s corner once your castle is fully leveled up. When you find him and talk to him, he will agree to join your cause.
If he isn’t at the Rikon inn, and you’re certain your castle is level four, don’t fret: Clive’s appearance is random. Just exit the village, re-enter the world map, and come back to the inn. Keep doing this until he appears. I promise, if your castle is the appropriate level, he will show up.
While some insist Clive’s appearance isn’t random, that’s simply not true. I verified it myself. I repeatedly entered and exited the Rikon inn with my castle at level four, and sometimes he was present while other times he wasn’t. Trust in the process: keep leaving Rikon and re-entering until you see him.
How to Recruit Crowley
Crowley is located in the section of Qlon Temple that you access after obtaining the Star Dragon Sword. As you navigate down a long corridor, you will notice him on your left. From the area where you found the Window Crystal, head to the southeast exit, ascend the stairs in the next room, go through the door on the north wall, and finally, descend the stairs in the following area: Crowley is located in the area that follows.
When you spot Crowley on your left, move around so that you are positioned north of him. Now proceed down as far as you can, then left, then down, then right, and finally, down once more. You will arrive at the clearing containing Crowley. If your castle is at level four, he will join you.
How to Recruit Pesmerga
The cool character Pesmerga will only be recruitable once your castle has reached level four. He requires you to navigate through an already completed dungeon in Neclord’s Castle. He will be positioned in front of the organ on the top floor, where you initially confronted the vampire.
If you have been diligent in recruiting every available character throughout the story, you will almost meet the requirement to recruit him. You will just need a few more characters, which you can easily obtain once you enter the Dragon Knight’s Fortress.
