A recent report suggests that new titles are in development for two beloved long-running franchises on the PS5. While a new Uncharted game by Naughty Dog has been widely expected, the potential return of The Simpsons: Hit & Run caught many by surprise. Originally developed by Radical Entertainment, this action-adventure game debuted on the PlayStation 2 in 2003.
This information comes from Video Games Chronicle journalist Jordan Middler, who has a solid reputation for accurate reporting. During a recent podcast reviewing the Xbox Games Showcase from last Sunday, Middler not only revealed that a new Uncharted is in the works but also indicated that Activision is actively exploring its classic library.
“Obviously, a new Uncharted is coming. It’s on the way,” Middler stated. He also pointed out that, unlike Microsoft, which has maintained momentum with its flagship franchises, Sony has left the Uncharted series dormant for quite some time, letting it reach its peak before setting it aside.
The last mainline Uncharted game was released over ten years ago, which underscores Middler’s point about Sony’s cautious approach to its major intellectual properties.
In the same podcast, while discussing the upcoming Spyro game, Middler hinted that Activision is busy revitalizing its back catalog, including licensed titles. Toward the end of the episode, he mentioned that he’s about to wrap up the discussion—an indirect nod to The Simpsons: Hit & Run, a game fans have been requesting for over two decades.
As always, treat these rumors with skepticism, but there’s reason to believe that Middler’s sources are reliable.
