Pokémon TCG Pocket offers various in-game currencies, and while some might find it challenging to collect them all, there’s a way to obtain each one for free, even the elusive Poké Gold. Like many currencies in Pokémon TCG Pocket, you can earn Poké Gold by advancing through the game.
However, acquiring Poké Gold is particularly tough compared to other currencies. While you can easily earn Pack Hourglasses, Wonder Hourglasses, and Shop Tickets through missions and battles, Poké Gold is not as straightforward. To earn it without spending real money, you’ll need to invest considerable time for just a few coins.

How to Get More Poké Gold for Free in Pokémon TCG Pocket
Earn XP & Level Up
As you may know, Poké Gold isn’t available for direct purchase in the in-game shop. However, you can find a section dedicated to Poké Gold at the bottom of the shop page, but keep in mind that it can’t be bought using Shop Tickets. Currently, it is the only currency in the Pokémon TCG Pocket app that requires real money for acquisition.
That said, many players are hesitant to spend money on Poké Gold, so it’s good to know there’s a method to earn it for free. The only option available now is to accumulate XP and level up your account. You’ll earn Poké Gold when you level up, though the rewards are minimal—one or two Poké Gold per level. Moreover, as you reach higher levels, the amount of XP you need to level up increases, rendering this method inefficient.
Technically, earning XP is straightforward since it involves just playing the game. Activities such as battling, completing missions, and opening Pokémon TCG Pocket Genetic Apex packs will yield XP. By the time you finish all the tutorials and solo battles, you should have climbed several levels.
Hourglasses Can Be Just As Useful As Poké Gold
A Handy Way to Progress
Instead of fixating solely on obtaining Poké Gold, I suggest focusing on Pack and Wonder Hourglasses. While Poké Gold reduces recovery time in the game, Hourglasses serve the same purpose and are much easier to collect. Players typically receive Hourglasses frequently; by the end of my first day playing, I had acquired nearly 200 just from solo battles and mission completions.
If you do decide to spend real money on Poké Gold, consider waiting for exclusive bundles. This way, you can get unique items alongside Poké Gold, making the purchase feel more worthwhile.
In summary, use your Poké Gold wisely, but don’t waste your time grinding for it. There are more effective methods to reduce recovery times and open additional packs in Pokémon TCG Pocket. If you find yourself in urgent need of Poké Gold, you might be better off purchasing it, as the current methods don’t yield a substantial amount for free.
