The newest event in Pokémon GO is called Deep Depths, a limited-time occasion that introduces a brand-new Pokémon alongside an increase in the appearance rates of several existing ones. This event shines a spotlight on Water and Dark-type Pokémon, offering enhanced Shiny chances throughout its duration. Additionally, players can look forward to new Research Tasks as part of the Deep Depths experience, leading to various rewards.
The Deep Depths event will run from March 19 to March 24, 2025. Similar to the previous Festival of Colors event, Deep Depths starts at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 19, and concludes at 8:00 PM on Monday, March 24. Given that this five-day event isn’t exceptionally long, make it a priority to participate as much as possible before it wraps up.

Discover an All-New Fox Pokémon
Two new Pokémon make their debut during the Deep Depths event, both hailing from the Galar region introduced in Generation 8:
- Nickit (Dark-type)
- Thievul (Dark-type)
Nickit, the Fox Pokémon, is a Dark-type that will be appearing frequently during Deep Depths, with a higher chance of being Shiny in Pokémon GO. Once you catch a Nickit, keep capturing it to collect the Candies needed to evolve it into Thievul.
You can also gather Nickit Candies by hatching the new Pokémon from 7km Eggs or transferring Nickit or Thievul at any time. Thanks to the Deep Depths event bonus, you’ll hatch Eggs at half the usual distance, allowing you to hatch Nickit more easily.
While Thievul won’t appear in the wild, catching Nickit is straightforward, and you can easily collect Candy for evolution. The evolution requires 50 Nickit Candies, which should be manageable given the high spawn rate during the event.

Encounter Water and Dark-Type Pokémon
Specific Water and Dark-type Pokémon will feature in Special Encounters throughout the Deep Depths event, creating a unique atmosphere. Along with Nickit, Clauncher, a Water-type Pokémon, will be the most prominent, boasting heightened Shiny odds during this event. Whether you catch Clauncher in the wild or hatch it from an Egg, your chances of securing a Shiny variant are notably increased.
While there are no new Max Battles or Raids related to Deep Depths, players will discover an array of rarer Pokémon that aren’t frequently encountered. Despite the absence of specific raid bosses in Pokémon GO for Deep Depths, here’s a list of rare Pokémon that will be more common during this period:
- Murkrow (Dark/Flying-type)
- Sneasel (Dark/Ice-type)
- Corphish (Water-type)
- Clamperl (Water-type)
- Purrloin (Dark-type)
- Frillish – Female (Water/Ghost-type)
- Clauncher (Water-type)
- Nickit (Dark-type)
Each of these Pokémon can also be found as Shiny variants, with Clauncher having the best odds during this event. Additionally, some Pokémon have heightened chances of hatching from 7km Eggs:
- Nickit (Dark-type)
- Galarian Corsola (Ghost-type)
- Clauncher (Water-type)
- Pawniard (Dark/Steel-type)
As long as you keep your incubators open, you should quickly hatch some of these Pokémon from the 7km Eggs. During the event, there are opportunities to earn extra Incubators specifically through certain Research Tasks.
All Timed & Field Research Tasks
Complete Various Goals to Earn Rewards
During Deep Depths, you have the chance to complete Field Research tasks for various rewards, ranging from basic in-game currency to unique Candies for Pokémon or even event-themed encounters. One of the most effective ways to ensure you capture the featured Pokémon from the Deep Depths event is to pursue Research whenever possible. If you’re familiar with the recent Catch Mastery event, you might already have a solid idea of what these Research tasks entail.
You can obtain Field Research tasks by spinning PokéStops throughout the Deep Depths event. Collecting and completing these tasks will help you earn additional rewards before the event concludes.
The Field Research tasks can vary widely, involving everything from using specific items to engaging in battles with other trainers. Field Research is divided into two categories—Free Timed Research and Paid Timed Research. Free Timed Research is available simply for logging into Pokémon GO during the event, while Paid Research must be purchased from the in-game shop.
Purchasing Paid Timed Research costs $2.00 (USD), providing access to additional rewards. While the free version offers goals that yield basic rewards, the paid option typically grants more valuable items for completing its specific objectives.

Another aspect of Field Research includes tasks focused on catching event-specific Pokémon. Collection Challenges require you to capture and evolve Pokémon featured in the Deep Depths event for even more rewards. It’s often the case that the Free and Paid Research tasks for an event help players work toward Completion Challenges simultaneously.

Paid Timed Research |
2x Super Incubators, 1x Star Piece, and encounters with Nickit & Clauncher from the event. |

The Mysterious Component from the Free Timed Research can help you begin tracking down Team Rocket leaders, including Arlo, Sierra, Cliff, and eventually Giovanni in Pokémon GO.
The prime reward from all types of Research is the increased encounters with event-themed Pokémon.
