In the "Hopes of Spring" chapter of Split Fiction, players encounter the Monkey King as they journey to confront the Ice King. However, this encounter isn’t your usual boss fight; instead, it’s more akin to a puzzle challenge—think of it as a monkey puzzle. (Get it? Like the tree? Arborists would appreciate that joke!)
This challenge may seem a bit tricky, as it’s not always clear what the Monkey King expects from you. While it’s not overly complicated, figuring out how to satisfy the king can be quite puzzling. But worry not— we’re here to help you navigate it.
How to Tackle the Monkey King’s First Puzzle
The first task set by the Monkey King involves jumping to each podium in sequence, following his pattern. It’s somewhat reminiscent of the game "Simon Says"— simply mimic his moves. If you mess up, you only need to restart that particular round, making it reasonably easy to overcome. The sequence appears to be random, which means you’ll need to react in the moment and match the Monkey King’s actions. Beyond that, it’s really straightforward.
How to Overcome the Monkey King’s Second Puzzle
The second puzzle from the Monkey King is a bit more challenging. Here, you’ll need to create a conga line, which sounds simple enough at first glance. However, there’s a specific twist to keep in mind. Mio must gather the pink monkeys, while Zoe is tasked with collecting the green ones. In the first phase, collecting all the monkeys will unlock the left wall.
After getting through that wall, continue to gather more monkeys to open the right wall. Keep collecting until you unlock the back wall. Be cautious—avoid crashing into each other or the monkeys will scatter. If a collision occurs, it’s best for one player to grab their monkeys first while the other clears the path.
Tip: Maintaining a circular formation can help keep the conga line tight.
Once all walls are open, your final goal is to round up all the monkeys and lead them onto the dance floor. To successfully complete the challenge, every monkey must be on the dance floor in a conga line simultaneously. Mio should make a loop on the left, while Zoe should mirror this on the right, being careful to steer clear of each other. If you do collide, it’s advisable for one player to gather their monkeys first, allowing the other to remain behind.
How to Navigate the Monkey King’s Third Puzzle
Fortunately, the third puzzle resembles the first in nature. It’s a variation of the Simon Says game, but you need to be a bit quicker this time. The sequence is randomized again, making it unpredictable. As the Monkey King dances, he will call out a direction. Use your stick to follow his movements. If you fail, you will need to repeat just that step. Once you successfully complete all the movements, the Monkey King will part the way for you.
With these tips, you should be well-equipped to tackle the challenges set by the Monkey King in Split Fiction!
