As you explore the mansion in Blue Prince and unlock new rooms, you’ll eventually come across the Boiler Room. Unlike many areas of the game that feature straightforward puzzles, this room involves more complex connections and sequences that may be challenging if you’re unfamiliar with the game’s mechanics—especially if you haven’t been keeping notes.
The Boiler Room serves a unique purpose: it generates power that can be directed to a limited number of other rooms. However, activating it is not as simple as flipping a switch. Unlike the more straightforward Utility Closet, you’ll encounter a tricky pipe maze puzzle that you need to solve first. Below is a detailed guide on how to activate the Boiler Room, along with a brief overview of the rooms you can power once it’s up and running.
How to Activate the Boiler Room
When you enter the Boiler Room, you’ll quickly notice that it has two levels, unlike many other rooms in the mansion. This guide will specify actions to take on both the upper and lower levels, so keep track of your position.
Lower Level: Tank #1
Start on the lower floor. Head down the stairs and look to your left to find a large green tank. Approach it and pull the lever. Steam will begin to flow through the pipes in the floor, indicating that the system is operational. Follow the pipe extending from the left side of the tank to a red pipe section on the ground, which can be rotated. Adjust that pipe so it’s perpendicular to the tank you just activated.
Lower Level: Tank #2
Next, continue along the pipe route to find another rotatable pipe connecting to six possible openings. There’s also another tank nearby—watch how the moving panels in front of it respond as you adjust the pipe. Turn the pipe until the panels stop moving and you can see the valve; this may require some trial and error. Once aligned, go to the second pump and turn the valve.
Follow the steam from the pipes to find a lever on the right that needs to be turned to ensure the steam flows horizontally. Go back to the first red pipe and adjust it to run parallel to the first tank—this will activate an elevator, allowing you access to the upper level.
Upper Level: Tank #3
When you arrive at the upper level, the third tank will be straight ahead, but don’t rush to activate it yet. First, walk to the lever at the end of the catwalk and pull it to raise a gate on your left. This opens a new pathway for future access, even after turning off the elevator—essential for completing the puzzle.
Now you can return to the third tank and turn the valve, then adjust the lever on the left pipe so it faces left. The third tank is active now, but we still need to get things running upstairs.
Backtracking Downstairs
Go back downstairs and rotate the first red pipe to its original perpendicular position. Next, flip the lever on the vertical pipe between the two lower tanks to face upwards. Rotate the second red pipe as shown, ensuring it connects to the vertical pipe next to the boiler.
The boiler is now operational, but the elevator is still off. If you remembered to unlock the gate earlier, you can simply go back up the stairs and walk across the new section of catwalk to reach the central console. Press the “Activate” button to bring the Boiler Room to life.
Connecting the Boiler Room to Other Rooms
As you focus your attention on the central console, you’ll notice it has three directional arrows. Interacting with this console allows you to choose where to send power, but be cautious—only certain rooms can be linked to the Boiler Room.
To be powered by the Boiler Room, a room must have ducts and either be directly adjacent to it or connected through a series of other ducted rooms. Here’s a list of some rooms that meet these criteria (this may not include all possible room types):
- Archives
- Boiler Room
- Darkroom
- Laboratory
- Locker Room
- Passageway
- Pump Room
- Security Room
You can harness the Boiler Room to power any of these areas, which is essential for solving various puzzles throughout Blue Prince. For further guidance on unlocking specific areas, such as the Orchard or West Gate, refer to our other guides.
With this knowledge, you’re equipped to tackle the challenges the Boiler Room presents!
