The holiday season has arrived, which means it’s time for the annual Pokémon Go Holiday Event! Just like in previous years, the 2024 Holiday Event will be divided into two parts, each featuring unique bonuses, elements, and highlighted Pokémon.
Part One of the Pokémon Go 2024 Holiday Event will run for approximately six days, starting Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM local time and ending Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 9:59 AM local time. You can find an organized guide for this event below, which covers Part One and will be updated for Part Two as details are announced.
New Pokémon Debuts
This year’s Holiday Event will feature two new Pokémon debuts. One is a new costumed Pokémon, and the other is a Pokémon that will have a chance to shine in its shiny form for the first time.
To begin with, you can encounter and catch Dedenne in its holiday outfit, which will appear in its own One-Star Raid.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to catch Shiny Sandygast for the very first time in Pokémon Go. You can find Sandygast both in the wild and in One-Star Raids during this event.
Event Bonuses
During Part One of the 2024 Holiday Event, you can take advantage of two special bonuses that will enhance your gameplay:
- Catching Pokémon will yield double XP.
- Eggs placed in Incubators during the event will require half the distance to hatch.
Wild Encounter Pokémon during the Event
Expect some wild Pokémon encounters to shift during the 2024 Holiday Event. Several holiday-themed Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild, such as:
- Delibird with a holiday ribbon
- Alolan Sandshrew
- Alolan Diglett
- Swinub
- Numel
- Sandygast
- Bergmite
- Litleo
- Darumaka
- Snover
Event Raids
This year’s Holiday Event will introduce different event-themed Pokémon in Raids, including One-Star, Three-Star, and Mega Raids. Below are the details of what you can expect to find in each type of raid:

Event Eggs
During this event, 7 km Eggs will hatch into different event-themed Pokémon, replacing the usual hatchlings for this type of Egg. Make sure to gather and hatch these 7 km Eggs during the event for a chance to receive one of the following six Pokémon:
- Cubchoo wearing a holiday ribbon
- Pichu with summer flair
- Spheal in a holiday scarf
- Hisuian Growlithe
- Amaura
- Charcadet
You can obtain 7 km Eggs from Gifts from friends who are also Trainers.
Event Research Activities
Paid Timed Research
You can opt to buy Timed Research during this event, which requires completing specific in-game tasks for rewards. This Timed Research will cost $2.00 USD in the Pokémon Go shop and grants you:
- One Incubator
- Event-themed Pokémon encounters
- Two Premium Battle Passes
- 1,500 Stardust
Field Research Tasks
You can receive Event Field Research tasks by spinning the Photo Discs at PokeStops. Completing these tasks will lead to encounters with event-themed Pokémon.
Collection Challenges
Engage in event Collection Challenges that will be available during this time. To complete these challenges, you will need to catch and defeat specific Pokémon in Raids, earning rewards like Stardust, Poke Balls, and Great Balls.
Event Pokémon Showcases
Participate in various Event Pokémon Showcases at different PokeStops throughout the game. Make sure to enter different event-themed Pokémon in these showcases to earn in-game items.
You’ll score higher in the Pokémon Showcases by submitting either the largest or smallest Pokémon, depending on showcase specifications.
Thus, make sure to catch and keep large or small event-themed Pokémon.
