Mastering Every Step of Diablo IV’s Vessel of Hatred Quest

Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred invites players to explore the region of Nahantu in pursuit of Neyrelle, who is burdened with a Worldstone containing the trapped Prime Evil, Mephisto. As you trace Neyrelle’s corrupting influence, your journey takes you through the dense jungles and elevated plateaus of Nahantu as you strive to retrieve the girl and thwart Mephisto’s plans.

Like the primary campaign of the game, finishing the Vessel of Hatred storyline marks just the start of your adventures in Diablo 4. There’s plenty more to engage in as you develop your character, including the Deeds of a Champion quest. Below, we’ll outline how to tackle each phase of this quest.

How To Complete Deeds Of A Champion

The Deeds of a Champion quest starts immediately after you finish the last mission of the Vessel of Hatred campaign. Your first task is to chat with Kalien, located outside Lorath’s house, who will instruct you to head to Ormus in the Kurast Bazaar for additional guidance.

After reaching Kurast Bazaar, find Ormus. He will hand you a list of tasks to complete across various sets. Here’s a summary of what you need to accomplish, with more details provided later on.

  1. Step 1

    • Finish all three Mercenary unlock quests.
  2. Step 2

    • Conquer the Kichuk Stronghold.
    • Complete the full Tenets of Depravity questline.
    • Finish three Dungeons in Nahantu.
  3. Step 3

    • Complete the two quests to unlock the Undercity: The Kurast Undercity and Undercity: Wail of the Forgotten.
    • Defeat The Terror of Five Hills in the Undercity.
  4. Step 4

    • Collect 10 Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers in Nahantu.
    • Claim your reward from the Tree of Whispers.
  5. Step 5
    • Open five Tortured Gifts during Helltide.
    • Defeat a Blood Maiden during Helltide.

As you complete each of these steps, you will earn significant experience points, giving you a boost toward your Paragon levels. Upon finishing the last step, you’ll receive a set of Legendary armor featuring the Baneful Intent appearance, which becomes available in the Wardrobe.

Every Deeds Of A Champion Objective

In this section, we’ll break down how to fulfill each requirement of the quest, detailing the tasks you’ll need to undertake.

Mercenary Quests

When you first visit the Den during the Vessel of Hatred campaign, you have the option to take on three quests to unlock each Mercenary. Each of these quests must be completed to progress in the Deeds of a Champion.

Kichuk Stronghold

Next, clear out the Kichuk Stronghold located in northeast Nahantu by dealing with the escalating Lacuni threats in the area. Begin by destroying the cages that hold Villagers, then talk to the survivors. Protect them from incoming Lacuni waves, and proceed into the cave to destroy all pillars, causing the cave to collapse.

After escaping the collapsing cave, find the villagers who are in danger from Lacuni a short distance to the east. Defeating Kirma, Blood Bargainer, who appears as a boss with two phases, will wrap up this venture. Once defeated, you can rekindle the Wanderer’s statue to finalize the Stronghold mission.

Tenets Of Depravity Questline

The next objective involving the second step of Deeds of a Champion is to finish all four quests in the Tenets of Depravity questline. You can initiate this by speaking with either of the Guards located in Kurast Docks or Kurast Bazaar and then following through each mission until completion.

Nahantu Dungeons

For the second phase of this quest, you must clear three Dungeons within Nahantu. Note that this count does not carry over from previous Dungeon completions; you must do three new ones after starting Deeds of a Champion.

Fortunately, the Dungeons in Nahantu differ slightly from others. Your main goal is simply to reach the end and defeat the final boss. There are optional objectives along the way for additional loot, but achieving victory over the boss is what counts.

Kurast Undercity

To progress, your first task is to unlock the Kurast Undercity. To do so, you must finish two quests: The Kurast Undercity and Undercity: Wail of the Forgotten, both of which you can begin in the Kurast Bazaar.

Complete these quests and commence an Undercity run. When you enter, you will soon encounter the Terror of Five Hills. Defeating this boss will allow you to either finish the run or exit the Undercity to move forward.

Tree Of Whispers

For this segment, you need to gather 10 Grim Favors by fulfilling Tree of Whispers objectives and thereafter claim your reward from the Tree. You should be well acquainted with this activity, as it was introduced earlier in the main Diablo 4 campaign.

Once you have collected your reward from the Tree, return to Ormus for the next phase.

Helltide

During the Helltide events, you’ll need to participate in various activities. These events occur hourly in a random area, and slaying monsters within the Helltide zone yields Aberrant Cinders, which can be exchanged for Tortured Gifts. Your mission here is to open five of these Gifts and eliminate a Blood Maiden.

Note: Blood Maidens can be summoned at an altar using three Baneful Hearts.

Pit Of The Artificer

Finally, to complete the Deeds of a Champion quest, you must conquer Tier 20 of the Pit of the Artificer. This endgame challenge, located in Cerrigar, requires players to navigate through timed stages with increasing levels of difficulty, akin to Greater Rifts in Diablo 3.

Completing Tier 20 is equivalent to playing at Torment 1 difficulty. If you can consistently handle Torment 1, you should manage this without trouble; otherwise, you’ll need to enhance your gear and Paragon levels to become stronger.

Once you’ve cleared Tier 20, be sure to return to Ormus to wrap up the Deeds of a Champion quest.
